I used to work with Al Coffee and he told me a coulple of stories about the game in South Bend...
Start of the game, he and TC were back to recieve the opening kick. He was nervous as hell. He told TC "look... it's Touchdown Jesus!" The Kick went out of the end zone and he said to himself "Thank you Jesus!"
Said he was on the field for the blocked field goal attempt, because of substation rules then, you could only swap 2 players per play. He ended up lined up against an All American DE, and he was shoved back into the kick, which bounced off his helmet. That was the picture in the paper on Monday.

Yes. Pinkett ran fairly well in the '85 game, too, but the LSU defense played well overall.
