He's a good player. Randle outran him last season though, and Randle is even better this year.

3rd-4th round talent. 1st round hype

thoughts? I can definitely see DPeterson abusing Barron with speed over the middle. RR/OBJ running circles around him. Very good hitter with subpar speed

If not for a torn pec, he probably would have been a 1st or 2nd round pick in the draft. I don't think he has subpar speed. He took some poor angles to the ball carrier in last year's game, but he was able to catch Shepard from behind.

I thought he was the most talented player on the field. anyone have a clip of CJ chasing down mcfadden? the kid was drafted in the 3rd round based on talent alone. CJ playing under Chavis could have made him a 1st rounder.

Are there any criticisms of the mighty Tide that you would consider not dumb?

Or is any and all criticism of the mighty Tide just dumb?

You and those like you give Bama fans the delusional reputation.

You apparently think that Barron is a solid first rounder who has the coverage ability to lock down everyone on the field Saturday and is equally effective stopping the run. IMO that is what a hyped, 1st round NFL safety should be doing in college against subpar athletes. If this is what you think, then great, but why is it dumb to evaluate his talent from a different point of view?

It is my opinion that he will play well Saturday, but get beat once or twice as do most safeties when playing tough match-ups, but of course you probably think LSU is not a tough matchup for your mighty Tide.

According to Kirby Smart and Donta Hightower on SportsCenter today, he is the best player on their entire defense.

Let's revisit this thread when he's the first safety taken in the draft, or is than an over hyped stat too?

Y'all are crazy. Barron is an incredible safety. All the hype he receives is well worth it. He would have been the 1st safety off the board in last years draft. It is hard to stick out as a very good safety on any team much less one with as much talent as Alabama. That is one reason why Brandon Taylor is underhyped.

Taylor Mays was either the 2nd or 3rd safety taken in the draft and he was an All American also. Does not have anything to do with the fact that the guy is suited to stop the run and when the others players around him are not getting pressure, he struggles in the passing game. Both were/are great players but are aided by the players around them that mask their weaknesses which when they get to the NFL hurts them.

I didn't read the thread but I disagree with the OP. Barron is legit, he just gets caught napping sometimes. As good as their D is, it's understandable. I would say he brings the same amount of experience to their D as Taylor does for ours.

My 2 cents

out of all the guys you could pick on, why Mark Barron? The guy shows up, competes, plays well, plays smart, and is extremely humble. Never showboats. Quietest guy on the team. He even eats alone in the dining hall.

Seriously, though. Pick on Dre or something

Ryan Leaf, Matt Leinart,Boz,Dana Hall, Rumph, Roy Williams ... Need I say more?

ETA: nothing against Barron - merely rebutting the poster on the infallibility of the draft.
