TM is definitely a star in the making, but his current role suits him and the team perfectly. Also, has anyone thought about the reason he might be "around the ball" so much is because the other QBs are throwing away from PP and MC?

So we can discuss something different, does anyone think mathieu should start gettin some playin time over claiborn as a legit corner instead of just seeing him as a dime/nickel back?

I don't believe Ty should get playing time over Mo, but i would like to see more if him late in the game if LSU had a significant lead. Mo looks more polished with better body control & an increased height advantage over Ty. Mathieu is still has some 'rookie' tendencies that he needs to iron out.

Why would you want to change anything on defense just to see a certian player get reps at a different position... And you pick Florida week to bring this up?

TM is great, but there is a reason we don't see MC in any plays..he covers his reciever. Remember, CB is like the power company, you never see them it means your power works..

We've seen a lot of TM b'c he is a freshman and they are testing him..he has just responded and stepped up 70% of the time.

Florida's WRs are not as fast or quick as WVU, and are not as big as Tenn WRs, but the QB/OL is better so it will be a good test for our Def backfield

I recently said it doesnt have to happen in the florida game, i said sometime in the future would be nice to see him in that corner role. And obviously i wouldnt want us to change it up in the middle of a big game just to see him there, i was just thinking about it and wanted to see other peoples opinion on how they think he would do.

And why does it matter what week i bring this up? didnt say i wanted to see him starting at corner vs florida, just in general

First its not a diff position, its what he plays. And since we dont red shirt him let him get reps, it helps for the future. And does it really matter that it was brought up this week? Not at all. Its not as if were the coaches and going to make this change? The OP was just trying to get some thoughts about it.

Mathieu thrives bc of how we use him. Not saying he isn't a really good player just saying that chavis has put him in a great position to succeed. He doesn't get those sacks and fumble recoveries playing true corner bc he wouldn't be blazing like he is. But I love the way we use him. Why change it. Works perfect

I was about to say this. Mathieu is well thought of because he is a playmaker, a ball hawk. He's forced fumbles and sacked the QB because of the position he is put in.

Now, he is a good corner. He had good coverage on Hunter all day vs UT. Hunter caught that deep ball because, 1. good pass and 2. height mismatch

In a way, putting him at corner full time would make him less effective as a game changer. Keep at nickel where he can terrorize the QB, and let Mo do his thing.

Honestly he might do this his whole tenure at LSU. Just bc it works so well. As long as we have another viable option at cb.

We will move to CB when PP leaves. Mo and TM are gonna be god together. I don't think Mo is a better pure Corner than PP, there is nothing that makes me think that. That is like saying Wes Wilkerson is a better pure WR than Chad ochocinco, because he is less athletic but still good

Good thread. This is a really good problem to have. These are two solid players. TM seems a little stronger with cover skills. But UT did take advantage of his size. TM in the nickle seems to be working best.

The recruiting board had a mini meltdown when he committed.
