You were expecting more for the Troy game? Are you serious?
You should have made plans to attend the Alabama game. Even though it was a 2:30 start, the tailgating was in full force and the stadium was loud for a day game. Then at the biginning of the 4th qtr. they annouced "it is now Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium." We did lose the game but is was a great atmosphere for college football.
Next year you might want to pick at least an SEC game.

And as a football coach, I know when players are not giving 100% effort and NO, I don't have to sit and watch when players aren't giving effort. It's not guilt. The knee-jerk reaction is to automatically assume if someone leaves a game that they are a fairweather fan, etc
Dude, in one breath you attack LSU nation for leaving, and in the next you make an excuse for why it's OK for YOU to leave. I'm sure you'll be sprreading the word in TX now that LSU is an overrated experience and a waste of time. Do me a favor--before you do that come back to a bigger game, bring your family, spend the day tailgating, and give it another chance. (Resisted the urge to be more negative....)

Well, If I had $1200 bucks to spend on Alabama or Georgia tickets than maybe I could. The fact remains, Tiger Nation did not answer the call Saturday night.
I got tickets on the 25 in the chairbacks for 125 a piece for the UGA game, and i bought them from a complete stranger, no family discount. You can find cheap tickets to good games if you try.

Since you've been a fan for 30 years, you should:
a)by now know someone who could get you decent tickets to a MUCH better football game than Troy.
b) have known the Troy game would not be near the "experience" you wanted to share with your people.
I remarried earlier this year and my wife and her kids are dying to go to a LSU game because they seem how myself and my family go nuts just simply watching them on TV. Yes, we've probably built it up beyond their wildest imaginations. Therefore, there's no way I take them to anything besides a big game for their "initiation".

Uh, since you're making such a big deal out of the distance travelled, the money, bringing first timers, etc, etc, why'd you pick the Troy game? I got news for you buddy, even if we had been winning the whole game, folks would have left early. It's freakin' Troy. Next time you make plans for the BIG GAME with an intention to impress others, pick an SEC game, instead of attacking the fan base.
I have been to several non-conference games when the atmosphere was significantly better than that.
Fact of the matter remains, I expect the same thing of our program that I do of the Tigers...the coaches to coach hard, the kids to play hard, and the fans to cheer hard. When they don't they hear about it. Should I be called out for that? When we play the last place team in the district should our coaches, players and fans not bring their best effort? Come on. There are only 5 or 6 home games ALL year! Each one should be special and should mean something! I don't care who you play!

Outside of a true emegency, there is not many legitimate excuses for leaving early. Especially if you call yourself a fan and supporter of the team.
To leave early whether the team is winning big or losing big, says you are a quitter! A quitter as a fan and a quitter in life as well! You don't have the guts stick it out and do the hard work necessary to succeed. Luckily our team and coaches don't share that dubious quality.
It amazes me that a football coach would take the attitude that the originator of this thread has. I wonder how he would react to his players if they had that attitude. He missed a great opportunity to teach his girlfriends kid a lesson in toughness and loyalty.
Anybody who doesn't think that the players and coaches don't notice when the fans leave need only read the comments by Les and Ciron Black in the Advocate.
I don't know who said it but truer words were never spoken-"When the going gets tough, the tough get going!"

Are you really kidding me? What a spoiled a-hole. Why even play the freaking game here then? Play every out-of-conference game at their place and only play SEC games at Tiger Stadium because that is the only game worthy of you pompous pricks. Wow. It wasn't too long ago when knuckleheads like you thought it was "special" to go to the Independence Bowl. What color were your unicorns then dickhead?

Mike69,
This really has nothing to do with the game as much as the environment and effort of the people associated with the program. Lessons come in all shapes and sizes. My lesson that I tried to share was this...It doesn't matter how you are feeling, what happen to you yesterday (or last week in this case) you show up and you give your very best effort everytime out. That is what I try to instill in my kids. The fans, players, coaches all did not give their best effort until panic mode set in. That is my point. I don't want to expose my kid to lethargic, uninspired performances nor do I want to watch it. If we get our asses kicked and I see great effort, you are damn right I will stay and cheer my arse of to the end. I was at the 2002 Cotton Bowl when Texas STEAMROLLED our arse in the second half, but I saw Michael Clayton and the rest of that team fight and claw and scratch until the end. I stayed for every second of that game as did the same year when Alabama thumped our arse 31-0 in Tiger Stadium. It was twice as cold that night and I stayed for every play because I saw effort (not great execution) but effort.

Now, you tell me, if you brought someone to their first game on a Saturday night in Death Valley after you had been going on and on for months about how magical and special the place is and then they had to sit through that embarrassing debacle that was the first three quarters after being exposed to the single worst tailgating atmosphere I have ever been witnessed in 30 years as a Tiger fan, would you not leave, too?
No...unless the objective was to also prove that Tiger Fans that feel the need to live off the reputation of Tiger Stadium's great atmosphere tend to very often be the guys that bail and leave early...thus adding nothing to the experience.
You could have simply said, "It's a lot better than this normally. I wish we'd have come a week ago to the BAMA game."
Or leave and bitch...your call.

Um...I did. You didn;t. I stayed to watch the comeback, knowing in my heart it wasn;t going to happen and that I'd have to hear ribbing from the fanbase of a fricking Sunbelt team. But I stayed...for the reasons you just stated.
You, on the other hand, took your ball and went home.
On second tought, I should be complaining about how you ruined the atmospehere for me in the 4th quarter!

Guess you have never had a game that your players did not give a 100%...
The game is played for 4 quarters, not 3...
Well... you missed the effort (and execution) of the offense scoring 30 points and the defense coming alive in the fourth quarter... you missed the best 15 minutes of the game. You did not stay for the largest come-from-behind victory in LSU's history.
Oh well, that is your loss... maybe next time you and everyone else will stay until the end.

I've been going to LSU games since the early '70's douchebag. Based on over 30 years of experience I'm saying that how could you have realistically expected any "great" experience vs Troy.
Me personally, I would have loved to have gone to the game b/c every time I walk out up and get the view of the field I get goosebumps. But, I also know that LSU vs Troy wouldn't live up to the image or expectations that a lot of people who don't love LSU would expect. Especially if they've never been to a game.
And no, I'm not a spoiled a-hole and yes I did enjoy ANY bowl game we went to years ago. I'm just being realistic and you clearly are not.

I took my step-daughter to her first LSU game in Tiger Stadium for the BAMA game.....she is a Jr. at University of Oklahoma, and is surrounded by rabid OU girlfriends who despise LSU...
She is LA born, but has spent her last 10 years in OKIELAND......she went to the game with an open mind on what to expect vs. what she's witnessed in Norman, OK.......
I can tell you that she was "blown away" by the atmosphere, the rabid, but polite crowd, the awesome tailgating (tents encompassing the entire campus), the great food, and the pristine weather......in spite of the loss, she stated that this was "by far" her most memorable experience (including concerts, proms, athletic events, etc.)...... an experience she'll never forget!!
Sorry you had a bad experience, but I suggest you give it another try.
