Funding hasn't ever been an issue. Their revenue increases every year. They just raise tuition to more than cover what the state cuts.
Another money grab for next year is them requiring all freshman to live on campus, which makes them all buy big meal plans. That's probably 20 million more dollars coming in

I must regrettably agree that LSU is a very sick institution. Of course funding is an issue--LSU is able to hire some pretty good faculty, but we are unable to retain the best faculty and lose the vast majority of them to better-funded universities. We are not competitive with other universities in recruiting the best graduate students or in securing grant funds. Our academic programs are not improving but rather are moving in the opposite direction. Frankly, the physical plant of the university is in gross disrepair and there is no reasonable hope that funds for maintenance or renovation will be forthcoming any time soon.
But most importantly, the leadership of the university has lost its soul and is leading the university in the wrong direction. Numerous posters have correctly pointed out that we have an incompetent university president who has no experience in running a research university with a strong athletic program--leading academic and athletic giants like Murray State and Cal State do not prepare one to lead a major university like LSU. Moreover, we have an incompetent athletic director whose participation in the Duke lacrosse scandal should have disqualified him from consideration at LSU and who has failed to move the athletic program in the right direction.
But LSU's sickness is not limited to the very highest levels. LSU has weak leadership throughout, in part because the university president does not have a clue about what kind of people are needed to be in leadership positions for a university like LSU. While there is a handful of good deans and other administrators, many of the LSU deans and other administrators do not come from peer institutions and do not know how to move a major university forward. One of the problems is that LSU hires administrators who have little commitment to LSU but who view this university as a stepping stone to other, better places. They come to LSU and leave wreckage before moving elsewhere.. Those of us who love LSU are left watching the university fall apart.

Your academic rankings are slipping, because louisiana's fiscal mess. We are #1 university in cuts to funding since the recession.

Most of you guys really have no idea about how universities are run. You can blame the administration all you want it won't get better unless the stat raises taxes or raises tuition. Alabama got this which is why most of their students are rich kids from Texas and California (student body 50%) and they charge in state residents about 14K a year for tuition. No tops program equivalent.
North Carolina is one of the best funded systems in the country. Texas system is wealthy based on its endowment.
