The age of internet censorship on the Rant

The age of internet censorship on the Rant is drawing near IMO
It does seem that way, now doesn't it?
It's Chicken's game, and I am certainly willing to play by his rules. I have tried to avoid criticizing the players, although I am certainly guilty of bashing Miles. I have crossed Chicken's line a few times regarding Miles, so I will try to keep it on the straight and narrow from here on out.
IMO, it is the posters who do nothing but personally insult dissenting opinions that make the Rant borderline unreadable at times. No need to name names, I think we know who they are.

I agree 100% WacoTiger. I wonder how many of the Tiger "fans" on this board are merely 'posers' from another team trying to drag down LSU any way they can...and no, I'm not trying to paint everyone with a broad brush.
Constructive criticism is one thing, but so much of this is just mean-spirited bullshite. I believe that most of the other schools' fan boards have moved to some forms of closer monitoring for this very reason. I am all for open forms of communication - but I do not like seeing LSU torn down by individuals with personal agendas.
Reminds me of the old New Yorker cartoon, one dog is sitting a compter talking ot another dog: "One the internet, no one knows you're a dog..."

ABSOLUTELY!
There are D-bags and nice people everywhere and I didn't mean to insult the nice ones...which you seem to be.

I applaud you Chicken...I am a fan of the Tigahs, no matter who coaches them. Win or Lose they are still my team.
I still believe that on any given day... you can win or lose. Its not whose always got the most talent, but who has the will to win.

Long post. Ignore it if you wish.
To the OP, dead on, but unlikely to change unless people get banned. I like Miles very much as a person, and I, too, would have a son play for him if that were in the cards. I do not consider him an "arrogant Yankee" as one poster said. I do think he is fair game for criticsms about play calling.
As a former teacher, one thing that good teachers would strive to do is to impress upon a student that it is your BEHAVIOR I don't like, not you. When rants are in that direction, I am cool with that. Instead we get into everything from his hat to his post game conferences. Stick with the football aspects of his behavior, and I think we would have a chance to learn more.
I do believe that a lot of people post here who despise LSU and masquerade as fans. I also think that we have some young fans who seem to believe that a testosterone laden, profanity laced response is the only way to go. I have thought seriously about giving up on the board, but I do love to read about LSU football. I also love the insight of some of the people on here who seem to know more about the inner workings of the team. This is a thing that I can't compete with.
As a much younger man, I have to admit that I did boo some play calling, play execution, coaching decisions, and player performance. Today, I never boo a player. I think that 99% of the time they are doing their dead level best to excel.
I don't know what Jefferson or Jarrett Lee will do this season, but I am praying that they and the coaches work in harmony to improve the QB position. Jefferson's leadership skills need to, and should, grow. Lee needs to get whatever chance comes his way and explode on the scene with a great game. I am pulling for him. I hate to hear stuff about that kid. He certainly could have told LSU to let him go, and I think he would have been a big success in another program. He obviously has more character and class than a few of the people on this board.
The rant is going to stay as it is until someone bites the bullet and bans some people. Banning the "nega-tigers" is not what I am after. The nega-tigers provide insight and contribute to the discourse. Adversarial relationships can add to improvement. What I think should happen is that the vile and venomous posts need to go along with the poster. Criticize the behavior or the execution, but it is isn't necessary to attack a player. T-Bob's penalty call looked a lot different to me the day after than what I was lead to believe while in the Dome Saturday night. Ragging him or anybody else when it looks like it could have gone either way is just wrong to me.

This
Something needs to be done about doing what all the other teams boards do and that is make sure there is not any outsiders starting crap on this board or masqurading as a Tiger fan when infact they are not.
If I go their board they will ban me in a heart beat fromsaying something negative about their team no matter what it is. I do not know how they do what they do to police their boards but they do it and that is what we need here.
I to am tired of all the cursing people because they do not agree with them it is not right. That is called lack of respect and on this board there simply is not any respect for each other as LSU Fans and I would like to know why? Maybe Chicken you can find out why there is no respect.
I do believe if there was respect for each other on this board it would be a lot more fun than all this name calling no matter who it is. JMHO!

Danny, I'm another Tiger fan who lives in Waco. I've been at the Trib for 22 years. In sports, no less. My LSU football memory starts in September 1960, listening to a radio broadcast of Joe Ferguson getting all excited about some guy named "Jerry Snowball." Of course this was Stovall, but I was just starting the first grade and couldn't read yet. Snowball was instantly my favorite player, and remained so after the letdown of learning his actual name. Not a bad choice, either. He was runner-up for the Heisman in '62, the year I attended my first LSU game. That was in November -- the regular-season finale against Tulane at Sugar Bowl Stadium. 38-3 Tigers, who wore purple jerseys.
Call me at the Trib if ever you feel like talking LSU football, past or current. My extension is 5762.

Dear Rex:
Your parsing skills are very great. So great that I can see why you are the king. One should never compliment someone for the tone of an entire letter or post without dissecting each and every noun, adjective, and verb. Each sentence ought be precise before one levies a grade or an assessment on a football-inspired internet message board. Sorry to have offended you, your highness. Glad that my ignorance, especially when compared with the light of your brilliance, was able to provide a laugh for you yesterday. My plan going forward is to allow your editor's pen to dissect each of my posts in order than my posts don't make me the laughing stock you have identified me as being. I will clear my bloviated posts with you from now on. Until then, may I finish by saying, "Go Tigers?" Damn, should have cleared that too - "Geaux Giters" -- damn, "Geaux Tigers!"
Seriously - you are a smart guy. Relax. Enjoy the season. It's early. They are young. Look at the positives -- there was not a single "check with me" and JJ didn't get sacked. That is better than 75% of 2009. Until Les has a losing record and unless he shows terrible game management as he has in the past I support him. I liked the original post and thought the point was generally well said.
FWIW - I thought your post about salary and results was spot on as the counter to the first post. It's only that the over all result of 52-15 is pretty strong, with the last two years of struggle documented. Further, the team's graduation rate is respectable and he has remained scandal free -- both of these factors should be included in any assessment of a football program and its coach, and frankly are considered by AD's, chancellors, and Boards. Let's see about 2010 and 2011 before we rush to replace.

(1) one board for those that (i) truly hate Coach Miles, (ii) wish him and the players would play poorly so that LSU will fire the coaches, (iii) feel the need to comment on our coach's interviews, his attire, etc.,
I get this post...I do. I, too, love LSU. But, it's amazing to me that there is no other arena in life that any of us would pay about $3000.00 a year to attend and then accept the product that this staff and this administration is putting on the field. I don't blame the players...they do their best and often their best is more than good enough to overcome the incompetence at the coaching level.
It's almost universally agreed by most LSU supporters that we as fans do, in fact, need to continue to support our great university and our beloved Tiger athletics. But, face it, to the athletic administration it's a business not a passion. And the product that they are allowing this coaching staff to put on the field based on scheme and game day preparation is unacceptable. If I bought any product that was supposed to be valued at $3,000.00 and it performed like a product I could purchase for $300.00 I would not only take it back I would never purchase from that company again. Unfortunately, we can't do that and, truly, won't do that in this case, but the analogy is nonetheless true
I know it's different with college athletics and I will always support my Tigers, but that doesn't mean I'm not a fan if I feel I'm being screwed.
