Does LSU automatically go given our win over Oregon even though our loss was much later in the season?
In the old days no, in the current BCS yes.

Good thing it doesn't work that way in the NFL right? otherwise, GB would have never won the Superbowl last year right? As well as many other teams through the years.....what a crock of %^&*, but then, consider the source.

Very good point!!!
However, the NFL also has a playoff. The BCS does not.
That is a very interesting scenario? Not sure how I would feel about that one.

Last Saturday was Nevada's season opener, so there's still a lot of questions about how good the Pack will be this season. From what little of the game that I saw, UNR's offense won't be bad but their D needs a lot of work.
Oregon's offense is about speed and timing. If you can line up against them and push them around, those components get badly disrupted and their offense struggles. Both LSU and Auburn in the BCS title game showed this.

Now, I know they lost Colin Kaepernick, their all-everything QB,
Kind of a big deal though.
Yeah, this was not last year's Nevada team. Look, I am glad Oregon came off strong to the rest of the CFB world last week, but they are who they are.
They will beat the shite out of less opponents, they are a solid team in the PAC12, but if they had to play a SEC schedule I would compare them to a program like Arkansas.

This. Nevada is going to put up a lot of points and possibly wins the WAC but that defense was horrible.

For Oregon to move up in the polls, we are going to have to beat a worthy opponent. If ASU beats the Illini, which is a pick'em currently, that showdown will put a couple of top 15 teams. That should bump us back up.

The poster who said Oregon waxes good teams but struggles against elite teams is right on....
Oregon will not beat the LSU/BAMAs of the world until we get elite talent on both lines (right now we have that talent everywhere else). Oregon had a great OL recruiting class last year, but OL usually aren't physically ready to contribute for 2-3 years. Ducks have been extremely unlucky in recent year recruiting DL (seems like every elite DL we get doesn't qualify or fails out).

It's amazing how the lemmings who can't think for themselves regurgitate what they here the talking heads say.
The goal of the BCS title game is to "match the two best teams" in the country in a one-game "playoff" to determine the champion.
These morons who always chime in "a team that didn't win its conference doesn't deserve to play" are apparently incapible of their own thought. I also love the "settle it on the field" tripe.
Now, 2007 the arguement that UGA didn't win it's conference was valid, but ONLY as it pertained to LSU because they were in the same conference.
On the other hand, had USC-west lost to Oregon instead of lower-ranked Cal in 2003, they might have lost the pac 10 championship but had higer computer numbers and played for the title.

I would say no way LSU deserves to go. If you aren't good enough to even play in your conference championship game, you shouldn't be able to play for a nc.
Nice but your make believe rule is not in play. Under the current guidelines, LSU would be eligible in that scenario and likely would be chosen over Oregon. Not so sure Alabama wouldn't get the nod, though, a'la OU in '03.

LaMichael James still only had 67 yards rushing

I watched the game and watched the highlights twice. Oregon still didn't play up to their potential, they just kept hitting big plays. Play was still sloppy, but they got away with it because they didn't turn it over and everything broke their way. One of the other things you'd notice is Oregon opened their playbook more than they did vs LSU. The game did move faster because there were fewer TV timeouts, something which typically hurts Oregon's offense.
A current rant of many Duck fans is the offense changes to sort of monochrome in big games - LSU, Auburn, Ohio State, etc. Oregon didn't get any more line push against Nevada than they got against LSU, but they did replace an interior lineman who was manhandled in the LSU game.

I think a lot of folks aren't cutting Oregon much slack bc they were demolished by Ab LSU team who they're still not sure about. It's a long schedule and they'll take then move to the top if they can run the table.

Most likely. It will all come down to their big Nov. 12 matchup at Stanford.
I would throw Arizona State into that equation as well. Except it's in Autzen.

Means NOTHING NOW. LSU keeps winning its all good.

Nevada is a good, well-coached team.
And still thats means NOTHING at this point. I will say it. LSU dominated a team that isn't even close to being as good as it was last year.

Kelly is classless. Nevada is a team LSU, Alabama, or Auburn would've beat 42-7 or somewhere in that area. But instead they run the score up bc they can't do it against real defenses.

I wouldn't say it means nothing. Sure, you win out and it's meaningless. However, it could mean a much better bowl game if you sustain a couple of losses.
Oregon still has a chance to improve greatly. It looks like the ASPER going to right guard and Cody stepping in at right tackle will be the starting lineup. The oline will get better as the year goes a long and some point I expect it to be better than last year's. Likewise, De'Anthony Thomas adds a dimension to this offense that was never there. I seriously think Oregon offense might top last year's.

We scored on a pick six with 14 seconds (why they were throwing was beyond me) and a dive play on 4th and 9 with a couple of minutes left. Oregon was being nice not going for the field goal and Nevada was still playing their first string defense and our walk on runningback scored. The score should've been 55 - 20.

Oregon will absolutely WAX good teams.
There is NO WAY LSU beats that same Nevada team by more than 3/4 touchdowns.
But Oregon gets waxed by GREAT teams like LSU.
Oregon is easily the "sexiest" program since USC.
But like USC, that doesn't translate to "best" team.
Oregon goes 10-2, leads in all offensive statistics and by season's end they will be back telling us they are better than us.
You know the drill.
To LSU, it's just another in a long line of skins on the wall.

Stanford is the team to beat in the PAC. Oregon will have to improve for us to beat them.
