Do you all make these sorts of comments before every game or is this a unique position you all are taking because you are playing a team that you perceive to have a weak defense?

Depends on the poster. Everyone is different.

We did this before the UGA game but mostly stat based. We knew we'd destroy UGA. I think OU will score more (4 scores?) but I really don't see OU's defense having an answer. But mostly because we've played better defenses and they have't had an answer.

ummmm...c'mon.

This may be the first time that "perception is reality" is LITERALLY true.

If you are taking that position, are you also taking the position that LSU's defense is weak?

How do you justify that?

Total Defense:

Oklahoma - 24
LSU - 32

Scoring Defense:

LSU - 27 (21.2 ppg)
OU - 50 (24.5 ppg)

Stats are like bikinis. What they reveal is interesting. What they HIDE is vital!

The premise of this thread is SMALL secondary:

to whit:

Fulton: 6'0" 200
Stingley: 6'1" 190
Stevens: 6'1" 228
Delpit: 6'3" 203

Look at the games when those defensive stats were accumulated. Specficially look at:

- Injuries. (LSU is healthy right now.) Example, a healthy Delpit being spelled by a healthy Maurice Hampton is paying massive dividends in run and pass support.
- Time of game when stats were accumulated (all games were out of hand).
- The fairly new scheme Arnada was experimenting with early during the season (a lot more zone than usual) that sometimes hurt this defense but is now paying dividends at the end of the the season.

Total defense is silly to compare teams with. Lots of variables at play here. Schedule and also being up big, injuries, etc.

Didn't Utah have like a top 5 or top 10 total D?????

They didn't really play good teams and look how that D got destroyed by Oregon..

LSU with a better scoring defense is actually pretty impressive.

LSU is finally getting healthy (Mainly Delpit and stopping the run) on D and the last 3 games shows the impact.

Before the Georgia game, Opposing QBs were completing 51.6% of its passes vs LSU (7th best in the nation)

I would love to know the stats since the UGA game and I'd love to know where OU stands..

Over the season, yes LSU's defense has been weak.

Statistically, there isn't a big gap between the two.

Except in Red Zone defense. LSU is 16th allowing 73% and OU is 126th allowing 93% of scores.

Our Pass defensive numbers are horrible. the are about the same as last year tho.

They are short, and have been affected by it - I’m not sure how Iowa StTe keeps coming up with 6’8 guys - but dammit they do.

While they are short, they are pretty fast and quick. Motley gets picked on a lot and has had an up and down career - but also has a short memory and goes 100 mph every play.

Tre Brown showed the no quit attitude they have adopted this year in the B12 title game running the Baylor track star from behind. If they scored on that play we lost, and he knew it.

While not our biggest strength, they are vastly improved over the past few years and are playing smart and hard to overcome the physical differences.

Yep and if you watch the pac 12 play they’re even smaller which is why I was hoping they would make it some how. They hyped those teams up but the fact is that the SEC would tear these teams to shreds.

This is a huge deal. Also Maurice Hampton was out for most of the season with a hand and is now also healthy. When Todd Harris went out that really hurt your depth at safety and put a lot of pressure on Delpit. He had to play hurt for several games which obviously impacted his play. He was favoring his sprained knee during those games. It really showed in run support.

But now that Delpit is 100% and Hampton is backing him up both he and Hampton can rotate and be 100% on each play. That really really matters in run support.

This is pretty normal size for corners. You arent going to have a 6'4 corner. It's not all about size. Look at Tyrann Matheiu.

Go check the game film. A lot of yards were given up after big lead. Everyone has moaned about ole miss but the halftime score was 33-7 I believe. With Plumlee’s and Ealy(sp?) speed one missed tackle or blown gap assignment was a looooog play. Backups in secondary and lbs are young or inexperienced.

All are great athletes but early on I believe we were trying to teach zone. We also go burned with the nickle playing so far off line making us vulnerable to slants. See Texas.

Alabama was only a four point game but they never possessed the ball with the ability to take the lead. That is a big turnaround for us a huge confidence booster.
