"We would've won except these 3 things happened":
1.
2.
3.
(pick your excuses)
Baseball is an "almost" sport. We "almost" got it done. It's maddening.

For the OP... I've been around baseball for decades and I've never heard any of those sayings. I think your friend is really... odd.

Not really. You don't hear stuff like this at the major college level or higher but high school kids say dumb shite like this all the time. The kids I coach are 15-17 and I have to tell them to stop saying cockshot within ears length of parents all the time. So much that I make them run now if I hear it. It drives me crazy.

I have nothing to add to what the players say, but the commentators always make me shake my head when they say, "It's a can of corn."
Huh? Why? How? Is a can of corn easy to catch? Is it hard to catch? Would a bag of frozen peas be easier or harder? What about a loaf of bread? A jar of pickles?
This has always been the meaning behind "can of corn" from those I have heard explain it... LINK

Without even reading your link the saying goes back to the days when grocery store workers would get cans from the top shelves with hooks. They'd pull the cans down and make an easy catch. Can't remember the guy that supposedly coined it though.

A buddy of mine used to always say when an outfielder made a really good throw home to nail a runner at the plate, that he threw a "scud"

Hit it like you live...Hard!

hitting a rope (line drive)
a TV hopper (High slow bouncer, easy play)
eat it (don't make the throw)
c'mon "Meat" (anybody making a dumb play)
Hey "Blue" (ump, of course)
comin up bloody (diving stop/throw out on the infield)
read the label (third base play when it's hit hard and you look at the ball before throwing)
count the seams (same as above)

All from high school...
Boot=error
Rip his nips/tits=hitting a pitcher hard
Yack=big swing and a miss
I still remember when an opposing defender missed a grounder, all you could hear was BOOOOOOTTT boot BOOOTT. Or when our pitcher would fool someone, yaaaaakk yaaak.
I could go on but those are the ones that stick out...
