Perhaps, pre-message board would be better. I don't recall any popular LSU message boards until the early 2000s.

Not many, but they were out there. The AOL Message boards were pretty lively, and I'm pretty sure we had our own board (or was it just the SEC Board?). There was also another one I used back in the days of Geaux.com, but I can't remember what it was called (though I think it might have been a general college football board).

The AOL Boards date back to the mid-'90s (like '94 or so, maybe?). But it wasn't until the early 2000s that the message board phenomenon really started to explode.
