If I recall everyone wanted to get rid of Pelini after the first two games of his tenure. Give it time.
frick I still wanted to get rid of Pelini after the Tulane game in 2007. Our defense has been mediocre to bad for the most part since the second half of the South Carolina game in 2007. I honestly can't figure out what the frick is going on.

Pelini was the most overrated thing since Canes chicken fingers anyway. Any team the spread the field and posed any semblance of a passing threat raped his defenses.

Meanwhile, Tenuta's defense pitched a shutout today.

I'll say this...the UT posters warned us Chavis runs this kind of D.

For some crazy reason our coaches dont like to put much pressure on the QB...that is one of the problems. They train them to battle at the line of scrimage. I dont understand why they aren't pushing them back a couple of yards?? Seems like this has been an on going problem

Too early to tell. I certainly didn't feel great about the first half... particularly how shitty we were in 3rd downs and stopping the run.
However, Chavis has a history of his defense getting better as the season wears on. There were some good things we did in terms of aggressive play - Coleman coming off the edge etc. Cutrera looked like a whole new player, which I think can be solely attributed to Chavis. Riley looks to be better than he was last year. The defensive line had ups and downs, but improved as the game went on. Josh Downs looked great in his minimal time. He was dominating his guard by exploding off the ball and driving him backwards.
On the flip side, Chad Jones looked like a heaping pile of shite imo. Missed tackles. Blown coverage. Just out and out lost out there. Second CB will be a bane all year. Always have and always will hate playing CBs off the LOS. I like abusing receivers, jamming them, making them work to get off the line. Instead we just took 5-10 completions like the day was long. Gonna be miserable to watch all year.
I think the D was tired from the travel and the offense's lack of ball control (which should be our strength). I think they were way overhyped to go out and prove doubters wrong and playing with too much emotion and not enough smarts. I hope that we improve next week... if we don't keep getting better... we'll be in for a long, long season.. again.

you mean the first series of the game. I dont think anyone blitzed from anywhere on the field from midway through the 1st quarter on.
3rd and Chavis unfortunately is no myth. Miles better put his foot down or we will suck arse yet again.

As long as we get a "W". He can do whatever in the hell he wants. Ask after our first loss with him, then we can throw him in the river.

Oh, there were some sprinkled in. Did they work? Not really. Cutrera had a good one that ended up stuffing a run.
Overall, I really don't care for his style of defense. And I was really hoping that we would at least be sound fundamentally... tackling etc. But we weren't... and that was probably most discouraging of anything tonight.

mabe chavis will turn it around. i had my doubts about miles after the TENN(05) game, but i'm a firm believer now.

Too soon to rate.
I'll rate tonight's game.
Exceedingly unimpressive. But, it was just one game against an unknown.(new coach, QB, system etc).
