No it's not you dumbfrick. When you get to Omaha, #1's super plays #8's super and so on.

This is not that big of a deal. I think you are trying to equate a 1 vs 8 in basketball to a 1 vs 8 in an 8 team-double elimination-baseball tournament. It's just not the same. You could take the 8 teams that make it to Omaha and shake them up in a hat, it really doesn't matter.

Biased opinion on bracket seeding no. Baseball, definitely. There is no statistical advantage to being #1 vs #8. The discrepancy b/w the teams is so small.

Before last year, act like last year didn't happen, would you have wanted to be the #1 seed and play Fresno St. or be the #7 seed and play Rice.

Now I know that's not how it played out, I'm just asking.

how many of the national seeds on average do you think actually make it to Omaha, probably around 4 or 5 of them.

Last year 6 made it. Only Rice and Fla State didn't advance. FWIW.

In this scenario, you already knew who has advanced to the CWS, it doesn't make sense. Teams aren't reranked before the CWS starts, if an upset occurs, they take the spot of that national seed. Fresno could have just as easily been a #4.

We beat Rice, so Rice. It doesn't matter and that's the point you're missing. LSU is as good on any day as anybody in the country. And so is Arkansas. Baseball has such parity now that the seeding is almost a farse.

The theoretical advantage is being at the Box, and given our road record this year...I do believe we have played better on the road up until now...so maybe the whole thing is a moot point.

From the fanbase's perspective, hell yea we wanna host a super. Would be interesting to see if the playoff atmosphere at the New Box comes close to comparing to the Old. As of yet, the New Box pales in comparison.

Yeah, I realize that. I just think it's better to be higher and you play a lower seed for the first game in Omaha. That way you don't have to face the higher seeded teams' ace.

But like you'll said, #1 thru #8 is not that big of a difference, SOMETIMES.

You lost me here. And for clarification, Fresno was the #3 last year, and Rice lost to them in the 1st round as the #6. I'm pretty sure Rice was loving the fact that they were a #6 right before the game and anybody else in the field would have traded spots with them if they could.

The lower seeded team's ace might be better than the higher seeded team. Now you're talking specifics.

Are there pitchers I would rather face than others? Absolutely! But, its just too difficult to micromanage your postseason prospects around somebody's ace pitcher.

To get back on point...

Not that these projections would hold up...don't know shite about Minnesota. Is the Big Ten any better this year than years gone by? I know OSU is usually fair and obviously Illinois has some good starters.

Watched Baylor @ UT. Baylor would be hard-pressed to make the SEC tourney. They weren't very good at doing much of anything.

+1

There is some merit to wanting to be a higher seed, but it isn't like basketball. They're generally going to stick to geography when placing teams,so the difference between 1 and 8 is minimal. As long as you're in that top 8, you're good. And, as we've seen in SEC play, when you get to that level, the teams are pretty evenly matched. In fact, the match-ups, particularly the starting pitching, is probably more important than the team seeding.

Illinois (Big 10 Automatic)

No surprise there if it happens. Tough opening game for Bama at the 2 seed if it plays out this way.

LSU doesn't want nothing from no Gophers!

In any case, the projections are obviously wrong, since everybody who's been reading my updates on the Help Board realizes that Minnesota is going to win the Big 10.

At 13-4, they're only 1/2 game behind Illinois (14-4), but Illinois still has a series with Ohio State (13-5), whereas Minny finished up with Michigan (7-11) and Penn State (5-13).
