The issue isn't that they are being punished, they will be. People are on here acting like these two people stole something from them, and didn't do ANYTHING for this team up until this moment. Just as RR put it, you're quick to praise but as soon as they make one mistake all the work they put in goes out the window, and the people sitting on their asses and chest pumping are the ones who act like they lost something.
See, this is all bullshite! First of all, I haven't read anything in this post that suggests that these players did anything more than they did. You're getting carried away. And as others have said, this program is not just about the players that are there now. Its much bigger than that. It is also about the people sitting on their asses (in the stands, spending their hard earned money to see LSU play year after year after year). They've (we've) invested a great deal in this program. Its about players that have played in the past and still support the program in hundreds of ways. Its about kids that will one day play in this program and how their families few LSU. I love RR as a player, but his view is an immature (not suprising given his age), selfcentered view of the situation. One day he will understand why people get upset and why they have the right to be upset. Its not the end of the world, but it is what it is. To ignore it is a lesson not learned.

The team is supposed to be greater than any one person. Your behavior reflected upon your team. Those of us who played and are pissed - that is what we are pissed over: the fact that there is presently such a high sense of entitlement that some just don't give a frick about "team" anymore.
I've posted it before and will say it again...Jerry Stovall gave a speech in a class I was in w/ about a dozen or so football players and it centered on what I quoted above that you wrote.
He pointed at a player and asked if "he owed me and the fans their best on and off the field? You bet you do sucker!!"
The player was pissed, but he was the kind of player who liked attention and I think Stovall purposely went at him.
It was the greatest speech I ever heard and made me proud to be a Tiger and proud of all the players who always represented LSU positively throughout their lives.

Sure but I didn't point to everyone else and play up this we all we got attitude. I shut the frick up and did what I could to fix my frick up. Own it, apologize and learn from it.
It's the right thing to do.
It's the right thing to do.

Everyone one has a right to be disappointed but some of the vitriol being spewed towards SW and TM is overboard

I love the LSU Tigers. I am a graduate and financial supporter. But RR's maxim that a "real tiger fan" supports the players "no matter what" is just naive. There is a long list of things "the team" could (but hopefully won't) ever do, such as murder, for example. Hopefully we all see this. If so, then we're realizing there IS a line that we cannot support beyond. Apparently some of the players draw that line sooner than some of the fans.

If this sense of entitlement were so blatant, so prevalent on this team, why are their teammates coming out standing by them?
Because they are just as ignorant of the term "team"
Like I said a former Tiger great spoke about the issue of representing the university positively in every way...it matters more than winning.

Actually if it was legal herb or adderall, both of which were suggested numerous times on here, there's a good chance they didn't know it would get them in trouble.
If they got the pre-season speech that we got when I was in college, they knew. A player is a part of the program, but NOT the program. You take care of yourself, particularly during playing season. That is not only an obligation to yourself, but to the program.

Nitpicking details is not the most intelligent reasoning. No, like some others, I have been around for awhile and like them have life enough life to be able to make some observations as such. Your sense of entitlement retort is too childish to respond to.

Just so we all understand---are you saying that no one should come on here and show their disappointment about what occurred?
Sure everybody makes mistakes, but sometime they come with consequences. I think that's the view of most here. We're disappointed in their behavior. I don't know your age, but if you've ever raised a child, you would surely understand this sentiment.

I admired Stovall. In his view there was a right way to do everything, even down to the way you walked. I hated things did not work out for him as HC. He was truly a good guy and one hell of a true man.

I can name 5 or 6 douches on here that want this team to fail. They don't come right out and say it but you can read between the lines. They are in all of the negative threads.

That's where I am at on this issue. I raised two into young adulthood. They are not perfect, but they turned out ok and they demonstrate having a decent values system and a motivation to adhere to it.

Agreed.

RR is wrong. He's asking for fan's to treat the players better than everyone else and back them up unconditionally. No criticism, even when warranted.
I'm not saying people should fly off the handle like some have. But the fans are absolutely right to be let down and disappointed.

I think the impression that someone is out to destroy the players is mistaken.
we do find it silly and childish that players will do something that is tested for and is against the rules.
did they think they would somehow not be tested?
did they think they could pass if they also had something special to mask the result? I know kids who think that is possible.
I just dont get that they would do this in mid-season.
Life is hard. THey just learned that. The team mates who seem shocked that people dont have the back of guys who blew off the rules are young and immature. rules do matter.
if these guys were working for a living, or expect to later, they will find out. You cant do illegal drugs at many places of employment, no matter what the movies portray.
People do get fired.
People get passed over for promotions.
JJ is not the starter.
Maybe when they come back, they wont start.
Life is sometimes very hard.
I wonder what R Perilloux would say to the guys.
I wonder if R Perilloux has any misgivings about indulging his preferences over the team rules.
Would he have become an NFL player if he had another year in the big time?
TM7 was the early leader for both DEFENSIVE player of the year and DB of the year. will some voters choose someone else now?

My own mistakes as well as the mistakes of my kids have provided me the lesson that says, "you fricked up. You know the consequences. Remember them. Think about them before you act next time. Move forward. Move on.". I don't berate my kids their mistakes. I don't berate my employees their mistakes. I won't berate these Tigers their mistakes either.
Some day when you are all grown up and have a job and a family, try failing a drug test where you work, or get charged with a felony...see how that goes.

This post represents everything that is logical.
