He’s had a couple top 10 recruiting classes there. Not easy to do at a place like Arizona.

Uhhh. AZ actually has a pretty solid Baseball history

Corbin 4th? Really? So you’d seriously put 3 guys over an experienced champion that has put Vandy on an entirely new level

Love how he teaches. The recruiting the southeast doesn’t bother me. As soon as he gets to LSU he will start making the right contacts. It’s not like the best high schools and club programs in Louisiana aren’t going to want their guys going to LSU because the coach is from out west

No recruiting experience in the southeast would definitely worry me. Tennessee tried a similar hire several years ago with the Fullerton coach, and they were terrible

Recruiting at Tennessee and recruiting at LSU are a little different.

What’s the consensus on him?

Top notch coach. His guys hit nukes (in a cavernous home ball park with some big, big dudes , no small ball here, think Skip Bertman sized guys) and hit for high averages (329 as a team, 10 guys over 300). Great approach at the plate. Team as a whole hits 930 OPS (basically slugging percentage plus on base percentage) . Next closest is Vanderbilt (about 60 points behind), pretty remarkable. Haven’t seen anybody “even here on the rant” that would hate the hire. He’s in everybody’s top 2-5 (even here with so many conflicting opinions) . That’s saying something.

Faint smoke on the SEC Board (I know they know Jack shite, it just struck my curiosity). Apparently some former Vol player sounded very confident on the radio that Johnson is the guy.

Former Vol player confident Johnson is whose guy? Why would a former Vol player know anything about LSU?

The difference between Johnson and the Fullerton coach was small ball.

Johnson is more likely to have success here, but his three down seasons after the title are concerning. LSU is not a place where that is acceptable.

I think he's a really good coach but I think he benefits greatly from his recruiting advantage.

I hope not. Not even on my list, I would rather about 10 others including Bianco and a couple of assistants.

West coast guy that caught lighting in a bottle his 1at season there in what I think was an underwhelming CWS that year. That was the year of the underdog. Quite similar to this year's field. Point is, he has done nothing between now and then (2016).

You have no idea what you’re talking about. There are all kinds of factors that go into why Zona had difficulties. Hell. PM sucked some years.

Going to the CWS at a 40% clip isn’t good enough for the local yokels nowadays. Our own PM went 38% of the time in 13 years.

Arizona and LSU programs are not apples to apples
