re: Scott Drew as LSU next BB coach?

If I have to talk basketball and take my mind off of lsusteve's profile pic - i like his point. I think we have given TJ his time and it is time to move on. There is nothing short of amazing with what Drew has done at Baylor. If we could get him to come to LSU, why the hell not?? Dont worry - LSU just built a compliance website that can watch his arse!

Everyone is winning at Baylor now. I wonder why?

Vandy never got above .500 in conference until Kevin Stalling's eighth season. Seems like Vandy is doing okay these days?
Vandy is harder to recruit to.......hence, he gets more time.

Trent has won as many games through 3.5 years as Drew did in 5 years at Baylor. Drew's also had 6 losing conference seasons out of 9.
Baylor was whiskers away from the death penalty.....not to mention the murder there. Yet he's been to the NCAA tournament 3 years (and fixing to be a 4th)....at Baylor nontheless.

I like Scott Drew and don't really have anything critical to say, other than to say look at his actual record and the timeline it took him to get Baylor where they are now. He would've been fired at LSU years ago, under the prevailing logic.

So.... how long does the next guy get?
24 months? What is the measure of success in those 24 months?

Ok - but under that same logic, how do you not move on from TJ?

Look at Baylor's history in BB before Drew.....what they went through just before he got there....to what he has done now.
Plus he is recruiting his arse off.....
TJ...ummmm, not so much. I will give him Hickey and Bryant.

3 years max. Dude - if you cant do it in 3 years in todays world you cant do it. College basketball players can leave in 1 year to go to the NBA, so I dont want to hear the arguement about it takes time to develop players in a program. F that. It shouldnt take more than a year or two to get a team on the court that can rank in the top 65!!!

Yea until this happens in about 5 years:
2011 Final Four (Houston, Texas)
11 Virginia Commonwealth
8 Butler
4 [NAME REDACTED]
3 Connecticut

Drastic improvement by year 3.......and that means level of play, recruiting, wins & losses.
After that....if he isn't getting it done, bye bye

Just for fun, how about a little devil's advocate:
Is Drew "dirty" simply because he has to be in order to get great talent to a Baptist school in the middle of east-central Texas, with no historic basketball prestige of note, but one with a prestigous academic history?
Would he have to use the same "methods" at LSU, a school with admittedly less academic prestige than Baylor, but with more of a tolerance for certain activities (such drinking and fornicating) and easily a greater basketball history?

I don't subscribe to that logic. I also am not the one making the decisions.
Drew has 2 NCAA appearances in 8 years. He had a losing conference record and no postseason as recent as -- gasp -- last season.
In his first 6 seasons, he finished 12th twice, 11th twice, 9th once and 4th once.
Again, he's done a good job, but people are acting like he stepped in and perfomed an instant miracle.
These are the same people that don't really pay attention to college basketball. They still want to hire Butch Pierre, even though that whole staff at Okie State is on the verge of getting fired.

From my previous post in this thread:

Fun fact: Baylor has averaged one conference win per season less than LSU has since 1993. (LSU has 117 conference wins in 18+ years, Baylor has 99)
Glory, glory LSU!
Do you not see that you're talking about VERY similar programs?

Baylor has no prestigous academic history. Just because they are a private school, don't pretend they are elite. I know plenty of below average students who have gone there, and currently go there. If you can afford the tuition (or play a sport) you are in.

Billy Donovan was 5-11 and 6-10 in the SEC in his first two years at Florida.
He couldn't do it.
Did Florida make the wrong decision in keeping him?

Examples, besides Kentucky, where this is happening.

This is not quite how the NCAA tournament works. (And it's 68, BTW)
Posted on 2/7/12 at 3:48 pm to Sheep
Plus the whole "Top 65" argument is bogus considering 31 are automatic bids and can be upset tournament wins and what not. Are they really arguing that UGA back in whatever year that was was a top 65 team b/c they made the NCAA Tournament?
Also it's 68 now not 65
