Simon was probably guarding a #3 WR or a TE since he was nickel. Am I correct?
when LSU was in the 4-2-5, TM7 was the nickel and Simon was the #2 CB, thus usually covering the #2 wideout.

Simon is not my primary concern. Replacing the corner that plays opposite him is.

You beat me to it eel.... agreed. While Simon is a very good DB and will probaly really step up this season, those stats in the article did not take into account the fact that Mo was more than likely assigned to the best WR. Also, while TM7 is a great player and a great play maker, good quality WR's with some height really show up TM7's coverage shortcomings...(Tenn, Bama games)

I was thinking this before I read your post. His stats are good for covering every teams best WR.

True. However he did face a lot of quality talent, particularly against Oregon, WVU and Ark. Simon has tremendous upside. If he does continue to improve it's not a stretch to see him making all-conference at the very least.

This. I forget what game it was in but he had some easy INT's and he just started dropping them, after that he just batted.

Assuming Mo gets drafted in the first round as projected, and Simon turns out to be as advertised, things could be interesting next year. If Simon were to then leave early you could look at 3 years in a row with a first round corner out of LSU. Hypothetically speaking of course.

Yep...that is my concern as well. (See my comment near the bottom of page one.)

Claiborne wasn't covering team's #1 WR all season like Peterson was in 2010, either.
He had his year of apprenticeship & got targeted more often than did Claiborne, & did much better by comparison. Simon has a huge wingspan & his speed and agility forces an already small window for passing lanes to become even smaller.

I'd say contribute to the conversation or stay the hell away...
I think Simon has the potential to be as good a corner as Mo - and that leaves us in great shape to have HB continue to do what he does best, seek out opportunities to make big plays!!

Am I the only one who thinks he is much better as a nickelback, or possibly even a free safety, than as an every-down cornerback?
No

He wil be as good as Claiborne. when your that good it is really nit picky to say who is better.

How do they figure that Claiborn only had 3 Int. Last year?

Going into the seven-game sample (Oregon, West Virginia Mountaineers, Auburn, Alabama [twice], Arkansas and Georgia Bulldogs), the big question was whether the Honey Badger, Tyrann Mathieu, would be able to replace Claiborne as this team's best cornerback.

I see. They are only counting games that support their position. I like Tharold a lot as a player, but I don't see how he is as good as Mo Claiborn yet.

Simon probably dropped at least 4 more INTs.

He can't really be better than Claiborne, at best, he can be equal to.
They nitpicked games to prove a point, and then use a pretty bad stat, YPA, against a CB? Lots of teams thought the only way they could throw on us, was deep, which is what they tried to do. It didn't work, most of the time it was incomplete or picked off.
