i guess i just have to laugh at the perception, once CPM won the national championship, that smoke was hot garbage and CPM was the second coming of skip bertman ... smoke took two teams to the CWS .. sure, they went two and BBQ twice .. but they got there ... CPM reeled off an amazing winning streak that put LSU there in 2008 and they went 1-2 in omaha .. the next year, everything just fell into place after the move to put nola at ss as a freshman and move d.j. to second ... it was about this time that i think everyone was convinced CPM had the midas touch ... the little run in the SEC tourney last year to get us to a regional kind of masked a season last year that was probably a harbinger to what this season would turn out to be ...
smoke was a successful assistant under skip and a great recruiter ... he had success at ULM and took them to the regionals before coming back here to be the man that replaces the man (a spot no one really wants to be .. see ray perkins) .. smoke let his recruiting continue to spin out of control a bit and got in trouble .. he never was that eloquent in front of the mike as an assistant ... so i wasn't surprised when he turned out not to be skip II with the media ... CPM is far more eloquent and so far, seems to be handling the criticism much better than smoke did ... i believe he'll get us out of this funk .. but the notion that he is just flat out light years better than smoke humors me ..

I'm not ok with LSU's identity being to win a title every 10 years and suck for 7-8 years in between. That seems to be the trend since 2000.
That's just a little too sporadic. You might as well ask season ticket holders to put in a reservation for the 2019 season when we win the next title. They can sell their seats off until then.

Better than the folks who consider Trent Johnson a god for making it to the round of 32.

no lsu shouldn't win a championship every 2 years, but damn at least be competetive, play with intensitity, quit going after this damn kids that are using lsu as a step to the majors, and recruit some back up players, that can come in and contribute.

another little tad of information i sit by the visitor's section along the left field line, and their fan's are laughing at our program, and say that no one is impressed with lsu anymore.

Yet another thing that PM squanders. Quit going after the kids that are way above LSU's head and are most likely going to go to the draft. Go after the ones a tier lower. The ones that the Bamas, Ole Miss, Florida, etc. are all going after. It's great to have a DJ Lemahieu on your roster. But let's get real for a second, those players sticking around and playing college ball are an extreme rarity and come along every once in a while.

i totally agree with your post drop the tier down a notch,go after the kids that want to put lsu back on the map, that want to stay a couple of years, and bring back the magic.

Been following LSU baseball since the 60s. This is the worst team I have ever seen at LSU. Poor defense, baserunning, plate at bats, pitching and PM tries to over manage the team.
NOw PM wins the NC and we make him the top paid college coach and build a new stadium. What does he do...instead of continuing the trend, he sits on his arse and puts out two awful teams...this is not what we pay him to do....
I have never liked PM as he appears a bit too arrogant to me and I just do not think he knows his team very well and makes very bad decisions using his players. Bertman's worst team could beat this one. This crap is Jim Smithesque...
I say give PM one more year and then show his arse the door....

i would think there were far worse teams at LSU in the late 70s and early 80s in the days they would draw 42 fans to midweek games against illinois chicago-circle ..
