no need to play on a drenched field if you have the next day available..
Yep, the Delicate Genius's in the LSUAD didn't want to tear up that gorgeous field when it's saturated with rainwater. Would have turned into a mud bath bout the 2nd or 3rd inning.
There's been rumors going around that this "agricultural college" has trouble growing and maintaining grass on it's athletic fields...

due to the rain which began at the Box around 5, neither team had a chance to practice, warm up. Even had they not made the decision to postpone at 6:30, at that point, it would have been at least 2 hours before they could have started (I would think), to get the water off the field, clean up and allow both teams time for practice and warm up. I don't fault them for postponing. What I heard is that Tulane wanted to postpone long before LSU agreed...Mainieri wanted to play.
I know that is BS, Rick has had his team play games in ankle deep mud before, I know because I had to try to get the field "ready". It does neither much good to move the game back since they both have important weekend series on the road.

Fine, ask Rick Jones since you know him so well. Why the Tulane fans come here and argue so strongly about this is amazing to me. Don't try to go to their board, you will be so insulted and belittled.
And clearly, Tulane would not be playing in ankle deep mud this year since I would doubt there is mud on their field of turf.
I doubt Mainieri would have told everyone that the coaches decided to make a decision at 6:30 because then Tulane wouldn't sit around and have to drive back to New Orleans even later had the weather not stopped. But again, I am sure you are correct...Tulane wanted to play and risk injury.

The new mecca of college baseball doesn't come with a tarp or draining system? Might want to revisit that before regionals get rained out.
