This graph means nothing because most of the LSU Athletic Department's debt has been transferred to TAF (which your graph does not show).

Then why did this independent audit of TAF for 2016 and 2017 show that TAF has nearly double the amount as assets as it does liabilities?

According to YOU.

An opinion which is roundly shared by most LSU fans.

Even "IF" this were true, what is the purpose of this thread? Why is this "opinion" necessary right now?

This is a message board about LSU sports. What are we to discuss if not LSU sports and various figures within, both past and present?

Why smear the name of a deceased former AD? Why is it necessary to stomp on his grave and destroy his family's memory of him?

Nobody is saying anything about the guy as a person. Again this is an LSU sports message board. Discussing the tenure of a former LSU Athletic Director is part and parcel.

Joe Dean was the worst. He was an arrogant arse, as well.

You left a totally complete drunk. Dude even drove his car into the LSU lakes. There was legit reason why no one in the athletic dept would get into a car with Joe.

I don't think he intends to hurt anyone. Its not like any of this is a secret. The real sad thing is the way the powers that be destroyed Bob Broadhead. He did and would have a lot of great things here if good ole boys had not taken him out.

I'm not an accountant....but the person who told me about the debt issue was/is a high ranking "bean counter" on the 6th floor. Accountants have their ways of moving things around a ledger that can make things seem better/different than they really are. This person had no agenda to speak poorly of TAF/LSU athletics.....the context was a conversation about how much $$ Athletics was giving (forced to give) to the University each year. I did not ask for a detailed ledger proving what was said.

Yes they were forced to do this by Joe Alleva, but that was changed shortly after Woody got here.

I've always heard that Dean's hands were tied, to a large extent, by the president of the university at the time ( sorry, drawing a blank). Especially when it came to firing Dale Brown as one example. As well, something must have really happened as Dean's basketball pass was terminated the day after his firing & he could not get into the PMAC the next nite. That's pretty harsh. As for the "worst A.D.", Skip has never gotten many accolades for his days as A.D. either. He was strictly about money, damn the fans.

May have been Rick Telander who was a regular contributor in the 80s; mostly a basketball guy. Went on to be editor of SI. He was all over the Bulls 30 for 30.

No need to disparage Joe Dean. Not only brought tiger basketball to the level of national contenders, even if we lost our Cinderella mystique. Joe Dean was also an an All-American at LSU and first round NBA draft pick.

Camp Randall, if you get a chance to read a few of the threads about the imminent demise of the Wade regime, and irish's UNBELIEVABLY NAIVE take on how big time college sports works (not how they SHOULD work in mayberry), you will learn how "special" he/she is.

Which Joe was better? Dean or Alleva. Burrow is not an option.

That might be it. That is a familiar name but it was so long ago. So you remember the article as well? Do you have any other info? Thanks.
I just remember that the SI guy thought Joe Dean would be a good hire. Jim Engster of Tiger Rag referenced in a story he wrote last year after Woodward was hired. This is what Engster wrote:
quote:

Joe Dean fought political winds at the Ole War Skule to get the job in 1987 amid a personal media pitch from the charismatic Dean and his many admirers. The lobbyists included Curry Kirkpatrick, who politicked for Mr. String Music in the pages of Sports Illustrated, then the most valuable real estate for that kind of thing.

Second of all, I'm sure he was a wonderful man but he still sucked as an AD. If he had to pinch pennies it was because HE failed to raise the money necessary.

Let me first say I hated his time at LSU, but he did take over in the middle of an oil crash, and his job was to get the AD in the black, and he did that, but I still wish he wasn't the AD.

I agree with this. If they would have let this man keep running things. LSU would have been back on top long before 2003.

The actual problem is, now that we have an AD that nobody can complain about yet, there's gotta be somebody on the hot seat to keep yall happy. So we go back to the 80s...

Bitching about (dragging his name through the mud) a former LSU AD on an LSU blog that his family probably reads (or someone they know tells them), is 100% going to negatively affect the memory of their loved one.
