Yeah, I mean, when was the last time that Ross stepped up against a CWS caliber team and won? Oh yeah, TWO DAYS AGO.

Unfortunately, based on that article, I believe that he will start Renaudo. The problem that I have with that is, if we lose that game, they will throw Coleman on Saturday, then your rotation is fricked for the series. Sure they can bring Renaudo back on Wednesday, if they are still playing. This really shouldn't be a difficult decision. Ross Friday, Coleman on Saturday (if needed) because he's the best we have and he has shown the ability to come back on very short rest (which Renaudo has not). Renaudo starts on Monday, Coleman on Tuesday (if he didn't pitch Saturday) Ross on Wednesday on 4 days with a short leash, follod by Coleman then all available arms out of the bullpen.

Either way, they have depth. Have faith in the other guys on this squad.

We can't get too worried about what happens in the Championship series though until we get there. One of the amazing things from the Bertman era was that he always would throw our ace in the game to get to the finals and then would just pitch whomever we had left for the finals. Thats how we ended up with Laxton throwing the championship game for us in 93 when we had other better pitchers.

Anyway, I think we are going to throw Renaudo and then Coleman because it just doesn't make sense that we wouldn't give ourselves the best chance to get to the championship series. Everybody would be pissed beyond belief if we went with Ross on Friday, somehow lost and then had to pitch Renaudo or Coleman on Saturday and if we lost on that day we would have blown our season without getting one of our top pitchers on the mound at all.

Obviously, there is an argument against this because in the SEC tournament Manieri decided to go with Ross in game 1 and he even admitted that created the possibility that we would lose out of the tournament without having used Coleman. I think the fact that we lost that game and had to scramble (while it showed we have depth) is going to ensure that PM will start our best two pitchers in the next two games.

Mainieri mentioned only one name after the game when discussing Friday's starter and it wasn't Ross.

Ranaudo starts.

This is not even close to the same situation. First off, in the SEC Tourney we played SOUTHERN!!! Secondly, we were playing back to back days.

I was thinking about the regional, my bad, but still Ross won't start Friday. You were still playing back to back days.

right, that was the point of my post, just giving both sides arguments, weighing them, then drawing a logical conclusion, obviously not something we rantards like to do.

If Ranaudo pitches on Friday, and pitches like we want him to, 6+ innings, he is DONE. He ain't coming back as a starter on Wednesday

I disagree with that. I think he would absolutely be the starter on Wednesday.

I wouldn't be surprised if you see Ross come in relief on Friday for an inning or 2 since he won't be pitching until Tuesday.

i have no fricking clue why you people automatically assume ranaudo can come back strong on short rest...is it because of all the times he's done it in his career?

What makes you think he'll be good on 9 days rest? He hasn't done that either. That's fricking retarded to not pitch your ace for 9 days in the CWS. You don't "save" anybody. Renaudo will pitch Friday, and he should.

ross was solid against them saturday

and he's been great his last few outings

Then why are you so scared to have him pitch in the championship series?

Friday, may need a suprise to throw Virgina off guard. Have a feeling that we will get them again. AR would be the logical choice.

What different approach will be if VA again? How well did they scout him the first time?

Newsflash ladies, Ranaudo is getting tired. Is he really ready to go? He didn't hit 90 at all on Saturday.

but i dont understand why you wouldnt want your 2 big guns ready for the title

Because you don't want to risk losing to Va/Ark (probably pitching their ace) and thus forcing you to lose two of your top 3 pitchers for the Championship series.

The only downside to throwing Ranaudo is that he would be going on 4 days rest in game 3. That doesn't outweigh the risk of throwing your #3 against Va/Ark #1.
