Lots of Cover 1 with 8 in the box.

Doesn't loading/stacking the box make us more susceptible to the outside run/big run? Say if everyone is in the middle or up on the line, that means if he gets through or finds a space he could be gone on a that particular play.

I don't know what to think about this, but I say if we do in fact lose the game, it will be a direct correlation of TR3/Bama successfully running on us. Bama won't beat us any other way.

stopping him is prority #1 for the defense. Gang tackling and good tackling. Stop Bama's power running game and force McCarron to beat you.

We are going to have to have good LB play. Bama's O Line is going to take us to the ball so we'll key through them to the backs. Minter, Jones, Hatcher, Baker, Francois have to fill the holes inside out, and have to at least hold him up for the rest of the team. Wrap up and grab cloth as my coaches say. On top of that, we will probably disguise coverage and show some 2 high safety looks, and it'll be up to Taylor and Reid to win the 1 on 1 battle when it happens, and it will. When they fill the running lanes on the outside, they have to make the tackles. Our corners are going to have to get off blocks, set the edge, and make tackles.
As far as stopping that dump off pass, if i was Chavis, i would have some sort of alert call when playing zone coverage to let the DE on Richardson side when Bama is in the gun to peel with him to take that away. Mingo and Montgomery are more than capable of handling that.

This game is definitely going to test our linebackers like none other.

Stopping Trent Richardson
The key to this entire game. We don't have to completely stop him, but we need to slow him down for sure. If he has <100 yards rushing and <2 total TD's, I think we win going away.
What I would do is stack the box to stop him and dare AJ to beat us with his arm. Their QB and WRs just aren't good enough to match up with our incredible secondary imo. What I do think we need to watch our for are the screens and short stuff out of the backfield to TR.

Stopping Trent is not the key. I really believe one should look for quick short passes, screens and dump off passes.....and then a draw,,,

Sell out to stop TR and make the RS Freshman QB beat ya.
Of course saying it and doing it are two different things.
One thing that makes me feel better was I think Brockers was quoted as saying the practices this week have been just like the practices leading up to the Oregon game.

this is how WV moved the ball on us, but I dont think they will put the ball in McCarrons hands that much. Saban isnt one to compeltely change their offense identity.
As tempting as that may be, i think he sticks with what got them here. Lots of TR, and not putting your RS freshman QB in bad spots: letting him throw downfield in favorable situations.

Force him to bounce to the outside and then gang tackle with LBs and safeties. Commit to stacking the box to achieve this. He'll get a few yards but if we can stop the big runs, we can win.
