Top 6. Edwards FB 93-94 (threw a lot of sliders this inning)

Milazzo- single off Morgan at first. Can’t give an error on that one, but Morgan stumbled. Later advanced to 2nd on ball that got by Jones at catcher.
Crews- weak bouncer back to mound for the out.
White- K swinging on 85 mph slider in dirt
Nippolt- opposite field rbi double over LF head. Made them pay due playing shallow.
JT- hard one hopper to Guidry who made the play to end inning.

1 run 1 hit 0 errors

It’s also weird that people keep bringing up that he’s a freshmen.
I bring up that he’s supposed to be in high school right now and we have 8+ guys throwing 96+ with varying amounts of movement and arm angles.

But what do I know?

There is so much to unpack here.

Milazzo now integral in two of his teams four runs. Good for him.

people act like he plays catcher like Milazzo hits.

In his limited time last season, Milazzo greatly improved at the plate although his BA may not have shown it. From the scrimmages last year, it was clear Jay was working with Milazzo a ton, maybe more than any other player.

People may be surprised at how much Milazzo has improved now with another year of Jay’s development.

At the same time, Neal is on another level talent wise. I think he reclassified so he should still be in high school. I would say it’ll take him some time to adjust to SEC pitching, but it seems he’s caught on pretty well already in these scrimmages.

We’ll see, but Catcher isn’t going to be a weakness by any stretch.

Bottom 6. Collins FB 93

Kling- grounder deep in hole on hanging CB. JT couldn’t catch it clean, but I think it’s a single either way.
Morgan- deep fly out to left
Jones- monster opposite field 2 run HR to right center off bottom planet fitness scoreboard. Posed in the box for a bit. Lol!
Neal- K swinging on CB
Dugas- K swinging on 86 mph offspeed

2 runs 2 hits 0 errors

Is Jared Jones projected to be at first base when Morgan goes pro?

Yes, he’s way to big (pause) to play catcher

He’s going to be our DH. Skewed will hit but at this point I cannot see Jay not putting Jones in the lineup as much as possible.

Top 7. Primeaux FB 89-94

Paul- opposite field single down line past a diving Merrifield at 3rd.
Beloso- double off the wall in right field corner.
Stevenson- runners on 2nd/3rd…BB on full count
Frey- bases loaded…K looking on CB
Milazzo- missed suicidal squeeze bunt…runner out at plate. Then hit back to pitcher for 3rd out.

Rough start for Primeax….but he got out of bases loaded and no outs jam.

Again, have we not had good freshmen catchers in the past?

I never said we didn’t. I have no issue with Neal’s bat and arm. If there’s something he has to adjust to it’s the receiving and specifically receiving that many guys throwing that hard. They need to trust that the catcher can handle anything they throw. That takes time.

Yikes! I’m sure no one will bring this up in the catcher discussion (sarcasm)

Bottom 7. Bucknam FB 91-93

Jobert- no doubt solo HR to top rows of Right Center bleachers. He posed too. Lol!
Guidry- BB
Pearson- full count…fly out to medium right center.
Merrifield- line drive single over SS head.
Ruddell- hard hit grounder fielded by Beloso to start a 3-6-1 double play. Questionable if pitcher actually touched 1B. Inning over.
