He won 1 with Fulmer and could have possibly won multiple in '97 and '01. Those weren't truly his fault as Tony George picked off Manning early in the '97 game. 2001...Mauck and co. threw them off, but the fumblitus of Stallworth and Stephens had nothing to do with Chief.

I am not a fan of Chief, but perhaps this thread should be titled " " " " as long as Crowton is OC.

False. UT won division, conference and even a national title with Chief at the helm of the defense. His defensive coaching ability and schemes are respected across the college football world. Quite frankly, he did an admirable job last year with the talent on hand and being in his first year. The defense will be improved in his second year, and also more talented depth IMO. Now if only the offense will improve as much.

They may not, but it won't have anything to do with Chavis.

How many more years do you think he'll be coaching? I say probably not.

LSU's winning another national championship will depend on a lot more than John Chavis. Anyway, it'll be another couple years until LSU is a serous NC contender.

Threw them off for an entire game almost? All we did was run the quarterback sneak and Chavis never made an adjustment. That's a different complaint for a different day. Also, has no one read one of my replys saying that this is a different SEC than back in the day?!?!

I'm not a negatiger! I support all LSU sports and coaches and players more than most around here. I just hate the style of defense LSU now runs and don't think it will win a game for us.

or his defense could get themselves off the field by forcing a 3 and out.

A lot easier said than done. Especially considering they were on the field for 45 minutes out of the 60 minutes possible!

Even the most fit players will wear down after a while when the offense can stay on the damn field!

we haven't been on the field for 60 minutes when we are allowing teams to run all over us in the 1st quarter. They keep themselves on the field just as much as the offense does. That is Chavis' bend, don't break scheme though.

we were able to do it very well until midway through 2007. When a team got a 1st down, you were surprised. When a team had 2 1st downs, you were shocked

True because it appears he won't be on a non- miles coached team and that is only one more year

Oh really?

LSU was 27th in defense...

LSU was 46th defense against the run...

LSU was 29th against the pass....

Lets take a look at getting turnovers on D.

Oh my! 89th!!! Out of a little over 100 teams...
Thats WITH the best CB (Peterson) and perhaps best safety (Jones) in the NCAA.

How about tackles for a loss:

Wow...41st!! Kent fricking State kicked our arse in the dept and had almost twice the tackles for loss! Not to mention powerhouses such a Nevada, Tulsa and Florida Int ALL having better stats than LSU.

How about sacks??? Thats an area we always do well in!!

Oh no! 87th!!! Maybe this year we will play better and can pass San Jose State and Toledeo in the sack charts....

3rd down stops? Oh we rank 38th behind such monster programs as Tulsa and Middle Tenn.

Hell, we gave up a first on 3rd down almost 40% of the time!

Last stat: Red Zone defense:

We come in at 43rd in the nation...

La Tech was 32nd! Middle Tenn and San Jose State all beat our arse in red zone defense.

So what do YOU base YOUR opinion on?? Because it sure isnt facts!
You come with all these meaningless stats and leave the most important stat for defense off the list. Points Allowed! Points win/lose games, not yards...
