They will be called team of the decade. If its USC that wins the NC this year, they won't really be team of the decade, with only 2 crystal balls. They'll be tied with LSU and Florida - as will any team which already has a NC in the aughts.

That will 8 out of 10 years with a top 4 finish, 8 out of 10 conf championship years, 2 BCS titles (3 NCs total). Something like 7-1 in BCS games. USC would EASILY be the team of the decade. If a decade consisted of only 9 seasons (so 2000-2008), USC would be it the team of the decade.

I agree with Bayou Bengal.

I you can put your prejudice aside, USC has had by far the most success this decade.

If one of three win the NC this year, they get it. If none. It is USC, assuming they do not lose four or more.

The last year of the decade is 2010, but we waste breath arguing. The press wins.

So honestly, LSU could almost be considered team of the decade in baseball and football.

Nah. Texas baseball > LSU baseball in the aughts (they also won 2 and made the Finals 2 other times).

And if LSU, UF, USC, OSU, or OU win the BCS NC this year, they will be the mythical "team of the decade." If Texas wins, they'll still be behind UF, LSU, and USC. Not enough else on their resume.

As of now, I'd have it:

USC
LSU
Florida
Oklahoma/Ohio State
Texas

Depends on what criteria one uses. If it's National Titles USC is out if they don't win one this year.

If you look at consistency, as in Top Five in final standings, USC could be declared the winner.

Folks, its not just NC's, although those play a big part.

so team A with 2 crystals footballs and a 10 year record of 100-20

Team B with two crystals has a record in the same span of 70-50.

But they are tied? I see.

or team A with 2 crystals and an extras AP and team B with just two crystals are tied. I see.

This is what's exactly wrong with College Football. "Team of the Decade" is just another subjective idea that can be argued over and over to no avail. Would LSU or Florida, for example, have been to as many BCS games if they had played in and won the PAC 10? Probably. Would USC have the same stats and records if the played in the SEC? We will never know. The debates, while fun, are equally as frustrating.

Since the PAC is 10-7 against the SEC in the last 17 meetings...I'm not sure.

I could(and would) argue that that is exactly why college football is the greatest and most unique sport in the history of the universe.

Exactly. Who knows? But, I never liked the conference to conference single game argument either. For example, if Oregon beat Alabama in the first game of the year, it doesn't mean they could beat Alabama the week after playing Florida and the week before traveling to Georgia. The whole SEC fan argument is based on the toughness of getting up week to week against tougher competition and sustaining this throughout the season not just doing so in one game.

The problem with the debate is the criteria. What makes a team the team of the decade? Everyone is quick to say Florida, but they had some very mediocre teams in the middle of that Zook era. I am obviously biased, but as of right now I think it goes to LSU. Playing through the toughest conference and 2 crystal balls to top it off. Now if USC wins the National title against Florida then you give the nod to USC. But if LSU makes it to a BCS game I still think they make their case for being the team of the decade. It all comes down to what LSU, USC, and Florida do this year to be able to make one of them the team of the decade.

They just caught us at inopportune times. LSU will settle the debate with a 47-6 thrashing of the Huskies.

Let's save this debate for the end of the season....you know...after the decade is over.

They had 3 5-loss seasons in the decade, and we had 2. And people seem to forget they won 10 games in '00 and '01. They won the SEC in '00, and played in another BCS bowl in '01. All their success this decade has not been since '06. They are legitimately in this discussion.

But what I think is so great about this argument is that the criteria is different for everybody. It's completely subjective, which makes it infinitely more interesting to talk about. Nobody is talking about which NFL team was best in 2003. The Super Bowl happens and they turn the page. College kicks the NFL's asa.
