Thanks for sharing this awesome story Doc and huge congrats, hugs, and support for your son
Backtrack 27+ yrs ago as I was in your son's shoes. LSU student who wanted to emulate the life of John Belushi and party like a rock star. I cheated death countless times because I chose drugs over family, friends, and school.
By the grace of God and a few small miracles, I checked myself into treatment on 12-27-87 when I was 19 yrs old. I did primary treatment at F. Edward Hebert Hospital in Algiers, and moved to Lafayette to continue my aftercare and live in a half-way house. I have been sober ever since and even at 47 yrs old with more than a 1/4 Century of sobriety, I have to live one day at a time and pray the Serenity Prayer daily.
I still have a difficult time when visiting BR since that's where I hit rock bottom and cheated death. I love LSU and everything P&G as I can't stay to long in the city since it brings back lots of emotions.
I will never forget my past and thank God each and every day that I am a drug addict and alcoholic. It saved my life and has allowed me to share my story with complete strangers who can relate to my past.
If your son needs anything , get in touch with me as I will be there to lend my support. Same can be said for anyone else on TD, if you want to talk or think you need help, please get in touch with me.
It makes my smile from ear to ear to see all the posters who are sober today and have been through treatment. My worse day sober is a million times better than my best day using.

The overwhelming response on this thread has been simply amazing to me.
It has, in fact, confirmed all of the things that my son has said about BR.
This thread really isn't about me or my family though. It is about your community and your love of a Texas boy who needed that love and continues to need it.
You have taught him about honor, God, and life.
Take a good look in the mirror and be proud of your special place.
And don't ever change the many good things that you all stand for.
See y'all this fall. I'll bring back this thread then and ask for invites to tailgates with good food and new friends

It's now up to 9. Let's hope the old saying what goes around, comes around happens to all 9 of them. Preferably in the next 5 minutes.

There is never a wrong time or place for gratitude.
So happy your son received his miracle. Love Purple but LIVE GOLD!
That is what good folks everywhere are about.

Happy for you and your son. Give him a big hug for me.
