We beat them by 7 points. The difference being a defensive touchdown by Marcus Spears.

Well, they got two TDs off a blocked punt and an interception. If Spears' TD is somehow a fluke, then both of theirs were.

Also, a fumble on their goal line and a 25-yard penalty on a successful FG is all that stopped us from putting them away in the 3rd quarter.

I agree that it wasn't the most dominating game, but it was far more dominating than the score indicated.

One of the most dominating LSU victories I've witnessed was the 1982 game against Alabama. We held Bear Bryant's last squad to ZERO first downs in the first half.

Hard to pick because of different eras. I can tell you that the 1982 demolition of a top 5 Florida State team 55-21 shocked the nation and sent the Tigers to the Orange. The 1971 destruction of a top 5 Notre Dame team 28-8 on national prime time television had the same effect nationally. The 1984 butt-kicking of USC in the Coliseum 23-3 was talked about for years. All of those were great teams that fell short to lesser opponents during those seasons but rose up and played their best against the best. More recently the VT game in '07 ranks up there as does the '03 BCS title game and the '07 Notre Dame game in the Sugar. But my vote would have to go to the '07 BCSCG against The OSU. That was an outstanding team that we completely dominated for the last 3 quarters on the biggest stage of all.

Left that one out (feeble memory). Thanks for reminding me. Rydell Melancon played like a demon that day. Bear Bryant spoke of retirement in the post-game interview for the first time. (He died two months later)

Carlos Carson scored on 7 consecutive receptions to begin that season. A record that is not likely to be broken.

Surprised that no one has mentioned the 1972 LSU Auburn game, 35-7. Going into the game, LSU was ranked no. 8 and Auburn was ranked no. 9. LSU was totally dominant. Auburn finished the season at no. 6 (with LSU being the only loss) and LSU finished at no. 11.

Great call. That was my freshman year at LSU.

I agree with all of the games mentioned, but I would also like to add the 2002 Florida game. I think the score was 36-7 ( I may be off ). I think in the fourth quarter a statistic was posted on TV stating that it was Florida's worst home loss since Bear Bryant's Alabama team shut them out 40-0.

Tech would have played for the National Title had they not scheduled us.

They probably would have if they hadn't given up two TD's to Boston College in the 4th quarter in their other loss, 14-10. They would have been reluctantly voted in if they'd held on.

Oh yeah, for my pick of most dominating, well, there are plenty of candidates.

For significance it's tough to beat UGA in 03. Whipping up on Florida State 55-21 and top 5 ranked Washington 40-14 in the early 80's was pretty good too though. As was whupping Miami, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech during the past few years.

But after the UGA game even the Dawg players were saying that the Tigers were championship caliber and had simply beaten them up. And this coming from what had been a consensus top 10 team all season.

Just because of our season opener... I nominate LSU vs U of Washington in 1983. They came in ranked #7 and we wore them out. Forget the score.. Something like 42-14. It was the high point of our season and things quickly got away from us.

As a Fresh Student that year, we only needed an ID and no ticket for the game. The student section was over seated by about 2K. It was a record crowd that the time. Great night!

what are you talking about? They beat BC again in the conf title game. And, besides, even with 2 losses that they did have they were #3 in the BCS, I believe. There is no doubt that the LSU game cost VT a spot in the BCS title game in 2007. Go look at the last BCS standings of that year.
