To be a real fan, you can either spend your money on the team, yell at the opposing team's offense, or get depressed when the team loses.

Age does not come into play on if one is a real fan or not.

Or the 'better' fans. However it is put I see it on this site all the time. The older of our fanbase seems to have this belief that because the younger group did not sit in the stands in the 90's and that all the younger group knows is success makes them lesser fans. 'Spoiled' is the word that comes up most often, as if it is the fault of the younger generation that LSU is better now than they used to be.

as an older fan(been sitting in Tiger stadium & Alex Box since 1970 ) I only want to encourage the younger generation to appreciate what you have now, there is a rite of passage and it's different for each one of us just be aware when it happens to you.

Why would you keep a list of people who you assume like gay sex?

See, now this is a nice way to establish your fandom cred.

The fights with my wife are epic. She loves that pizza for some reason. She's also a Cal fan, though.

i've been a tiger fan and a saints fan since i was a kid. i get annoyed with people who change teams to follow a winner, especially college teams. to me, those aren't "real" fans. i also get annoyed at fans who boo our own players and leave the stadium after the 3rd quarter. to me those aren't real fans either.

I, personally, don't think age has anything to do w/ it.

I'll begin this by admitting i'm older than dirt. (beats the alternative) You said that you cant help it if you were not around for the down years, by the same measure, I cant help it I was. My defenition of a true fan, (which I consider myself one), is a love for your team regardless of their success or lack thereof. I am an Astros fan, a Saints fan, and a LSU fan. With that said, its obvious that i've sufferred through my share of sub par teams (helluva of an understatement) I've made the comment for years now, "All I want to see in my life, is a superbowl win by the saints, a national title for the Tigers, and a world series win for the astros. Once this is accoomplished, I'll be ready to be layed low. I still love me some Astros, but I think its safe to say i still have quite a few sunrises to see. Enjoy guys, these are truly the golden years

Contrary to what you may think, band wagon fans are good for business....
I can almost guarantee that 50% of the current tiger fans are bandwagon.......

son, it doesn't matter how old i am. i graduated from LSU in 1972 and i am a fan, win or lose of everything LSU. of course, LSU football, then as well as now is a special thing. i know fans in their 80's that feel the same way. i am very glad that the tradition of bleeding purple and gold continues with all you young whippersnappers. and, contrary to popular belief, LSU has had some damn good teams (even prior to sabangod) also. the last 10 yrs or so is probably the best 10 overall but the next 10 seem to look damn good too.

The 'Real' Fans I'm 33. I sat in the stands during my junior high years when the team was getting beaten by 50 points against Florida and squeaking by Tulane. I was a fan no matter what. However, I have friends that used to make fun of me for rooting for LSU while they were pulling for Florida State or Notre Dame. Now those same friends are big LSU fans. They are NOT real fans. I say frick them. As I give a frick OFF to all LSU fans younger than 30 without first being screened.

I'm only 19, so it was hard for me to be a fan of the Tigers when I was 5. I just know that the first time I was in death valley LSU lost, but at that time I knew I was going to be a lifelong LSU fan. I have never turned the TV off or left tiger stadium during a game, including getting blown out by UGA, and losing to Troy big. I plan on never missing an LSU game, but I know I can't claim being with LSU through the thick and thin like some of the older LSU fans have, but in the future I know I will.

Why does it matter when or how a person became a fan. Personally I went to LSU in 97 and 98 didn't graduate, but was a fan long before that. I don't care if your a bandwagon fan, an old school fan, or a young fan. We are brothers in arms in supporting this team. If you choose not to support it when they are doing bad that is your choice. I could care less who the fans are and when they came around , or if they leave and come back. When you start to question everyone and everything because they aren't as "dedicated" as you start edging closer to entitled bama fan territory. GEAUX TIGERS COME ONE COME ALL

Only comparison I can make even somewhat close is Saints fans.

The Saints have sucked through my lifetime (graduated college Dec 2003). Now I've seen em win the NFC and Super Bowl. fricking amazing and I'm not much of a Saints fan. But if/when I have kids, my kids and their friends will never ever ever understand what it was like to be Saints fans pre-2009 then win it all like the fricking champs they were.

I don't think any less of current LSU students because they only know the golden days of LSU, I just think the fans who weathered the 90s enjoy the 2000s that much more.

Its easy to spot a bangwagon fan, when we play a weak team they dont bother to watch the game. When most die hards find a way to watch every game. Its just like the saints, when you win your fan base doubles. Mainly with chics posting shite on FB about the game when they have no clue
