This is the big reason, but I also think that there is something to the fact that LSU hitters are tuned into mid-90s stuff and when they face these 88 mph pitchers, who have good movement and control, they struggle some.
Anyway, the annual lesson is to not get too worked up with what happens in February and March. I think the good news that is developing on the mound is far more important than a hitting slump that will surely prove to be ephemeral.
