If Joe Pa was hired now, he might not make it. I don't think people are as upset at LSU if we are consistently winning. Sure we had our detractors when Miles was losing 2 games a year his first three seasons, but its been the last two seasons that worry people. The team dropped drastically last year (2008) and was very lucky to be above 0.500 last year.
In 2009, we struggled even worse on offense, and Miles' hires are seeming to start to be mediocre to bad.
All that said, people calling for his head this season are idiots. Next season will tell us more about Miles. He knows the title year graces are gone and people expect him to perform up to his salary.
As for his contract Gray Tiger, I wouldn't have extended him that way back then in 2007. It was an utterly stupid thing to do. His salary was going to be in the $3+ million range if we won the SEC championship game whether we win the NC or not. He's a good coach, but not worth that type of investment as a CEO. I'd pay that much for a great coach that actually coaches one side of the ball.

Being a college football coach is completely different nowadays. When Joe Pa started there wasn't even a sports network like ESPN. The radio and newspaper where the only 2 things that covered football really. Nowadays you have message boards where people can hide behind a name without anyone knowing who they are.

Agree but he has meant too much to the football program and university. He donated 4 mil to the library. What football coach has a library named after him?
