I've seen those bands' members holding wind instruments w/o playing or even putting them down on the turf to wiggle their asses or otherwise "dance" (using that term loosely). That behavior is an insult to true musicians & music in general.
Do you know that these bands dance routine is just a small portion of the show??
You probably think that they just march onto the field and dance for 12min.

well tell me this. how come when a SWAC school plays a non-HBCU the stands stay full at halftime when the SWAC school takes the field.. but when the non-hbcu school takes the field, everybody goes on bathroom break and food break.....
This happens for the same reason why pre-fabricated hacks like the Monkees, Justin Bieber or the New Kids on the Block have sold out 10s of 1000s of seats in arenas while world-renowned orchestras of professionally trained musicians struggle to survive financially in halls w/ < 500 seats. Most people who know nothing about playing music are drawn to crap involving flashy outfits, pretty looks of performers & alleged dancing skills of pseudo-musicians.

^^^This. There's still a decent amount of people who sit and watch our shows. Not ALL of our shows are lame.
(Well, that or they know to avoid the halftime rush and go some other time.

No, I don't. Those bands mix in a lot of monotonous repeating of the same measure of percussion w/ an occasional blaring of a few rudimentary measures on their wind instruments. I acknowledge they crank out a minute or 2 of screaching notes on their instruments mixed w/ the majority of time wiggling their asses.

TGBFTL has won the ONLY two national collegiate marching band competitions EVER held ( the 1970 All-American College TV Band in a one-time national contest sponsored by General Motors, and the 2008 "Battle of the Bands" contest sponsored by ESPN, Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm)
So technically....

The band needs to stick w/ music composed for marching bands or orchestras (w/o strings of course). Rock, country & other similar genres don't sound right. The greatest halftime show I ever saw was in 1990 when the GBFTL played the theme songs from a few movies based on superhereos (Superman, Indiana Jones, etc.) The costumed Mike the Tiger slipped into a costume matching the song being played. I'll admit my bias toward John Williams colors my opinion in this case.

Wrong. 225 members. 192 march at each game and 33 are alternates.
USC marching band. 300+ members. Now which band is just big?

The 2008 Indiana Jones battle of the bands thing was so stupid. I know why we are proud of it.. because it sounds like a cool award. But it was a bs competition.
And that's coming from someone who was a part of it.
We did rape the fan vote and did sound the best.

Not butthurt. It's just funny seeing some put USC's band #2.
For people that know music that would be like ranking Texas football #2 going into this season.

Of course they wouldnt last one practice....they would see that their instrument playing talents are above and beyond anyone on that practice field....look..i know Swac bands are known for their marching and dancing and all that stuff but u cant sit here for one second and tell me when they start playing that it doesnt sound like complet crap

No one's saying y'all don't know how to play your instrument. They're saying it's the sound that comes out of the instrument..
