I'm not taking up for him but that could have been a bad gesture but he could have been yelling snap the ball or something. He probably didn't know what the frick was going on.

yeah, I just said that too. Was "waving" his hand down. Miles is too dumb to lie about it. He thought he was in the right and if had called for the spike, he would have said so, because he thought he was right. I stand by my statement that Miles did not call for the spike.

Folks, he is "waving" his hand down. That may have very well been a motion to stay on the field.

Waving your hand down in a spiking motion means stay on the field? With no fg heading out there? And he had 27 seconds from the completion of the pass to the restart of the clock?

At least you admit that he called for the spike. Which is inappropriate given the scenario.

No I did not

At least we know for the rest of his career at LSU Jefferson will always know how much time is left.

I'm fairly certain he is NOT calling to spike the ball. It looks like he's just waving his arms, telling them to hurry up.

The video is unclear and ambiguous.

I know I was waving my hands like a maniac right about then and I was watching the fricking ball facing the TV instead of walking away calling for the FG not looking at what was going on.

The way he was waving his hand is typically indicative of a spike. I don't know why he'd be throwing his hand towards the ground in order to signal the offense to stay on the field. That doesn't make any sense. We are talking about Les Miles though, so I guess we shouldn't expect logic

Not a spiking motion. Spiking motion is throwning it down to the ground. Not waving more slowly (yes, I kow it is in slow motion) with the hand open.

b/c Miles is Miles.

Yes. Exactly. There was no comprehension of the situation. And thus no clear decision or communication.

This is as damning as actually calling for the spike.

IMO he was making the kicking motion right after the play ended. Of course he had no idea whether or not the kicking team was ready or had enough time to go. Once he realized they weren't he panicked and started signaling the spike, not realizing that it would end the game.

Not good enough, you can't defend him on one point and then throw this out there on another point

IMO, signaling a spike is throwing the hand down fast. He was waving it with an open hand.

True. Maybe to run a play, letting his QB and/or OC call the play with the limited time remaining.

None of that matters except your last sentence, which is the point of that video and the point of multiple threads...Miles said he had no idea who called for it

sure I can. Because he is in over his brain does not mean he makes the wrong call every single time. Lots yes, but not all

The thing I just can't get out of my head is that image of Ridley standing there behind the center with his hands out--I think he was calling for the ball bc he knew we were only 1 second... Then JJ shows up and game over... Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I keep seeing in my head. Who knows what would have happened if the center had just hiked the damn thing
