Bolt would not have a great 40 time. He is a slow starter but that dude looks likes a gazelle when he gets going

They actually said that Bolt's 9.69 100 meter time is equivalent to a 3.8 40 yard dash.

That is ridiculous. Maybe if he already running and then they start the gun. I can't see anyone running a 3.8. Please provide a link at least.

I heard it on the radio here as well. Not able to find a link though.

they actually did say that on espn about the 40 equivalent time but they were just figuring it out mathematically---9.69 in 100= 3.8 in 40......but he gets faster as he goes. -the 1st half is always slower than the 2nd half of a race(time wise) because your aleady runnin as opposed to starting from a still position. so in other words. No way in hell he runs a 3.6 or 3.8 or whtever they said in a 40

Actually, for the algebra challenged, he would theoretically run a 3.54. 100 meters=109.361 yards. This assumes his speed is constant, which it is not. While the early speed is lower until he reaches top velocity, this "slow" portion of the race is smaller by percentage and therefore skews the numbers. No way he runs sub-4.0.

Ok lets do math kids..

9.69 100 meters..

100m = 109.36 yards

40 yards = 36.58 meters

He was running averaged out 10.32 meters per second

Thats 3.54 seconds to get to 40 yards

But there is a acceleration curve. The vast majority of the 9.69s time is in the first 20-30 yards of the race. No way in hell is that only .26 seconds difference.. Bolt would likely run closer to a 4.1-4.2

if they figured 40 yards time based on 100 METER time then ESPN intelligence is at an all time low.

Maybe if you could get him to run hard but it looks like he doesn't get to full speed until 40 and then jets to about 75 yards and then shuts it down and lets momentum carry him to the finish.

If he did that, he would be 15 meters past the finish.

His acceleration would not give him the superhumn 40 time some of you think he would have. All anyone has to do is analyze the film, and you'd see that his 40 would be much slower than 3.8.

Cat... you may want to save this as a text file. Because this has been argued probably 20 times since he ran the 9.69 and no one seems to get it.

Trindon is a really, really fast starter and runs a 4.26 and 10.02 100 m. Bolt is an average starter and runs a 9.69 100 m, yet they want him to run a 3.5-3.8 40.

Would be cool to see him get a pitch on an end around.

You would have to give him a starting block and the QB would shoot a gun.

Nah I think I will just ignore it because by these standards when I ran a 10.6 I really was running 3.89 + .26 = 4.15 40 yards

Of course in reality my 40 time was 4.46

We should find out from Jox if Erin Andrews has slept with Bolt yet.

Did I miss something? What did my quote have to do with your statement? I don't know Jox so I may be missing something. Actually, it is likely.

I'm laughing that ESPN actually posted that number.

They actually put it up the number on the screen. I watched it while eating lunch at Pastime and had no volume so that is all I could get from the piece.

Oh, I believe you. I just think it's hilarious that they actually rationalized that math and made it seem like he actually would run a 3.54 in the 40-yard dash.
