This is why US News rankings are bogus. This makes up 25% of the scores, I believe. And they are required to do this for ALL of those in the rankings.
they really need to change their ranking metrics to weigh numerical data more heavily than subjective opinions

With LSU in his "adequate" category are others like . . . American University
Aw man I came to AU in part to go to a better law school than LSU, and now I'm just stuck with them in the "adequate" category?
Someone should show Machen the US News and World Report law school rankings...American is tied with UF for 47

ACTUALLY LSU IS MUCH HARDER THEN TULANE ESP. THEIR LAW SCHOOL. Lsu's bar passage rate is allways supperior to Tulane.
Tulane has ivy leage grading and a very undeserved reputation.

Most people would agree that Florida and Tulane are on par with each other.. Or are you willing to part with all the ranking systems that Tulane fans point to when they want to knock on LSU? I certainly know Tulane grads are quick to point to their Tier 1 status as some sort of great achievment.

Usc they do have Ivy lg. grading. When I was in law school I paid a visit to Tulane's law lib. and saw an open letter saying 50% of the students had to get a B or above on each test.
At loyola we had classes were no one got a b.

meh, tulane is on a slight dip thanks to katrina. prior to the hurricane TU jumped around in the 38-42 range. this is florida's either first or second year ever in the top 50. if you compare tulane's 27% acceptance rate and other admissions stats to vandy and florida, tulane has way more in common with vandy. i'm not saying we're as good, because we clearly aren't. the acceptance rate has dropped down to 23% for the current entering class. we'll shoot up the arbitrary ranking systems once last years numbers are being used, and even further once the current numbers hit.

apples to oranges.......many/most Tulane grads leave the state, whereas the LSU grads stay. So, who do you think has the highest bar passage outside of Louisiana? The curriculum is not geared to the same goal at each school.
Just being fair.
OH, Tulane is more of a liberal arts based institution, but UF is geared more towards the sciences. Sure both have a bit of each but what they are based on is different. Besides, Tulane did drop their Engineering program (except ChemE or BioE).

After going to Washington I have to say that I have a MUCH higher respect for someone that attended a state school that did well than a private school at any level. Its just that the private schools tend to stick out more. LSU was harder for me because the teachers had so many students it was hard to build any relationship with. At the private schools its no secret that they will go out of their way to get you to pass. In many ways with much less effort. Its hard to attend a school where you are just a number. When your tuition is over 35K though they tend to pay closer attention to you. I know I am more proud of my degree from LSU than my PhD studies at Washington. (never finished was offered a job I couldnt turn down)

thank you
tulane's rep in the state of louisiana might actually be worse than it is anywhere else in the country due to hate. this thread is a good example. i have no idea how this turned into a bash tulane thread

When we quit funneling dollars into useless 4-year universities (read Nicholls, Southeastern, NSU, Grambling) then LSU might have the resources to become a top tier school.
Exactly, state legislators funnel pork to those glorified junior colleges to win re-election into perpetuity. They have been open admissions w/ a comically sad minimum entrances requirements.
Not every high school grad belongs at a university. These places should be converted to vo-tech institutions or closed.

Yet when you hear about all the higher education cuts and the outrage you NEVER hear the idea of possibly shutting down one or two of the useless schools. Hell look at MS as an example. You go to either Ole Miss or Ms State mainly depending on what you want to study.

it will never happen, but louisiana really needs to consolidate a few of the four year universities. there are entirely too many schools for such a small state

Well those universities aren't nearly as distinguished for their academic prowess as Florida.
Posted on 6/23/09 at 12:58 pm to JoePa
I can't believe he has Florida as "Distinguished" and Vandy as just "Good". Also, it might come as a suprise, but all of the public Mississippi schools have the same entrance requirements.

I am a graduate of LSU and it pains me to say this but... When I went to LSU it was better academically than ULL or any other state schools but I doubt it could complete with Illinois, Missouri, NC or Va.
The school is under funded and the HS system in La is less than stellar.
