Really not a big deal. I suppose if a guy is spitting on you and punching and mouthing off to your teammates you would be very polite. Even the kid said Meyer shouldn't have suspended Spikes. There was way worse crap happening that whole game and the refs kept jumping in between players to prevent escalation. If you think this is a big deal U ain't played ball.

not condoning the action, but this sort of thing happens in every pile at every level. fact is spikes got caught on camera and it was obvious. the whole "promote sportsmanship" this season is apparently bullshite to the SEC. he should have been made an example of. a UF team minus spikes shouldnt even have the slightest trouble with a vandy team that just lost its qb.

also, its worth noting, running backs in the nfl have said the only reason they wear visors is so other people cant get into their facemasks.

if i try to poke someones eye out, and a camera catches it, i get the cops called me and a assault charge and a court date and court fees.

Spikes gets to sit on the bench for 30 minutes during the Vanderbilt game...

pathetic

His fingers weren't in his eyes. He was rubbing crap (grass?) on his face. I'm not condoning it but 1/2 a game ain't cheezecake when your top 5 or 10 on draft day. Guy on Barnhartt sp? show was saying his draft status went up because of the gouge publicity. Hope his draft status goes way up in the FSU game. Apparantly that kind of mentality is sought in a NFL LB. Go figure.

Whats next suspensions for "attempting" to hit the quarterback late? Even the guy he was trying to poke in the eye said Spikes shouldn't be suspended. Get over it.

Does anyone remember what punishment if any the goon who chop blocked Dorsey got? That ticked me off. I haven't seen this gouging thing yet so can't comment on it but was it worse than the chop block?

No punishment for the chop block. Both were bad, but it wasn't as obvious that the chop block was intentional.

i don't blame him. he would sound like he is crying. and its not up to him to enforce the rules. its the SEC's/NCAA's/team's.

Get over it.

i am over it. but there are still stupid people that think since it happens all the time it doesn't matter. and i like calling out stupid people.

It was called out and he is getting punished. No one's is suggesting zero punishment. Slive says 1/2 a game is enough and I agree. Is he stupid too?

and that's the reason to let it go on ????

it should be stopped at HS, College and pro.

let's see slavery used to happen all the time, murder happens fairly frequently....

just because it happens does not make it right nor should it be allowed.

wait 'till something serious happens and a LAWSUIT takes place now..they will all start screaming that they did not know.

Character is character, whether seen by others or not.

..."half a game suspension" is an I DO NOT REALLY WANT TO DO ANYTHING BUT I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING"

In my opinion this is worse than the one punch and out of control behavior of the Oregon player in the first game of the season.

That Boise fricker deserved to be popped. I enjoyed that well-thrown punch.

Nawlens Gator: If I were to come up to you off of a football field and try to gouge out your eyes. In the police report it would be filed under some sort of assault. There is no way you can honestly belittle this. I would not want a player with that type of character on my team. Its stupid because you've got a pasture of 100 yards that automatically makes any act you do "less bad" as if it were on a street corner!

Worse things happen in the pile. I guarantee LSU players do things like this all the time. It actually happens everywhere, pro, college and even high school (Hahnville comes to mind). Spikes was caught via video. The refs didn't even see it. The punishment was sufficient, IMO.

Finally, somebody says a reality based statement.I am blown away at the uproar over this incident. This is common.
