The West coast will get to watch the Tigers kicking arse in prime time. Maybe they will see something they like and be more interested in LSU. I am sure a strong showing by LSU fans can't hurt.
yes, we nationally watched you beat oregon state at home when their kicker missed extra points and easy field goals. you showed us then. we now bow to you.

The "Mystique" of a night game in Tiger Stadium.
In Serna's college career he was 144/147 in PATs. All three of his career misses occurred that night.

This is the best argument for the game in this thread. We do recruit the west coast with limited success. Maybe more trips out to PAC 10 country will improve our brand there. We are becoming a national program, and this trip will help.
Otherwise, the OP actually makes some decent points...not about teams traveling across the country, but about the reduced TV audience and the altered game week schedule.
However, the ability to reach a new market at this point is more important than reaching the markets in which you've already improved. This trip serves that purpose. This is a win for LSU, especially with a return home game in contract.

OSU was coming off a good season and had school record setters at multiple positions, from my recollection. That was a solid team which underachieved.
Also, LSU was overrated that year, coming off a national title but with two unproven QBs.
At any rate...sure we got a little lucky, but that was also the first great comeback of Jamarcus Russell.

The point I was gonna make.
We came pretty close to getting QB Jake Heaps this year way before we have played a game there. It can only help our exposure for more West Coast kids.
Maybe, oneday, a west coast grade school kid or two will see what SEC ball is all about and want to play here. So it defintely can't hurt.

This is far from the truth. There have been teams in the pac 10 who felt they got jobbed before in bowl games and schedule other bcs opponents every year. Oregon has been doing it since 2001. They open up with Boise St., Purdue (who they played in Indiana last year), Utah (will be third time this decade w/ a future date coming as well). They play at Tennesse next year and that was schedule two years ago. The following two years they are doing home and home with Kansas St., and in 2014,2015 they do home and home with Georgia. They also played a home and home with Oklahoma recently. Cal has played Tennesee before as well as UCLA, Cal also plays Minnesota and Maryland this year. Washington has played Miami, Ohio st. ND and others I don't remember. The pac 10 plays as a whole schedule the least amount of pansies. Unfortunately, its the truth.

Washington will not back out of the game in BR. We've always played one of the toughest non-con schedules in the country year in and year out and thankfully, even though we've been down, the AD is still scheduling big games.
The past 20 years...find a school who has played a tougher non-conference schedule...
2008 - BYU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame
2007 - Cuse, Boise St, Ohio State
2006 - SJSU, Oklahoma, Fresno State
2005 - Air Force, Idaho, Notre Dame

2003 - Ohio State, Indiana, Idaho
2002 - Michigan, SJSU, Wyoming, Idaho

1995 - Ohio State, Army, Notre Dame
1994 - Ohio State, Miami, SJSU
1993 - Ohio State, ECU, SJSU
1992 - Wisconsin, Nebraska, Pacific
1991 - Nebraska, Kansas State, Toledo
1990 - SJSU, Purdue, Colorado
1989 - Texas A&M, Purdue, Colorado

UW backs down from no one. Respect that. They might be wise to start scheduling more Idaho and Nevada teams, though. Oh, wait...maybe not.

quote:Dude, you're an idiot if you believe this.
This game makes no sense. No one except the ND/USC rivalry travels across country these days. Minimal national exposure with a late start and we do even recruit the northwest and never will. Oh yea, Dinardo did get Jamal Hill as a "drop LB" in the late '90s out of Seattle area. Team will not not get back until mid morning Sunday with an SEC game up next. At worst LSU should have had ESPN lock this up as a day game before agreeing. Now watch UW bail out the contract for return game in BR. If Emmert not at UW no way the powers in BR take on this game.
This game makes a lot of sense. It's the SEC vs the PAC10. It's national exposure, heavily hyped on ESPN. It's the ONLY game on at that time in the country.
Are you concerned about players not getting home until Sunday instead of Saturday night? Do you date one of the players on the team? DAMN you're crazy dude. It does not matter and will not affect the following week's game preparation.
And you want a DAY GAME? WHY?!?!?! Man, you must have been on drugs when you posted that.

Mark Emmert, that is why this game is happening.

And to answer the question, hopefully UW can scratch out a 6 win season and give LSU a win over a Pac-10, bowl eligible team with a winning record.

No way that happens.....they will have to scratch and fight to win 4. I think they win 3. I understand why you said what you did but forget it.

And your point is????
I think you're picking out what you'd consider to be "weaker" non-con schedules?
Am I correct?
Want to stack them up against LSU's - including 5 non-D1A opponents in the past 9 years?
Posted on 8/31/09 at 2:09 am to LSS
One thing's for sure, after we wax them I'm going to be pulling for them to be a 1-loss #3 team.
