i'd say its a little different with pitchers though
there are many cases of guys who have decent stuff, then just explode when they get in the right program, around the right coaches, ect....combine that with their knowledge of pitching, moxie, and other intangible, you have a super prospect
see stephen strasburg

this kid's dad has been training him since he was like 4. i know b/c i witnessed it first hand
he then went to the barbe factory, and is coached by a close relative (his brother, i believe)
he went through the SLC system (with a dad/brother who coached a badass team) and barbe. you don't get better than that pre-college

i hear that
but what im saying is, it happens quite a bit that a pitcher's curveball breaks sharper, and his fastball gains 2-3mph once he hits college
to use your football comparison, you usually dont see QB's gain a substantial amount of arm strength or athleticism relative to his competition

every now and again a QBs arm gets stronger also (see: tom brady)
but both are real rare

No way he turns down that kind of money.
I was talking with one of the coaches out at Zachary a few weeks back (not one of the baseball coaches, but the guy knows the kid well) and while it isn't a lock that he's coming here, the odds are pretty good. He has a high $$$ in mind and if he isn't drafted high enough to command it, he'll be a Tiger.
From a skills standpoint, he's good enough to be a high draft pick. I agree with some of the previous posters (Josh and SFP, I think) that signability could be a bigger question than talent.

Anthony Ranaudo was a stud in H.S with great stuff and was only drafted in the 11th Round by Texas.
I have a hard time seeing ZVR going any higher than 8th round.

I love all these experts-in-their-own-minds on here saying VR doesn't have tools and only throws 87.
The reality is, he is 6'5', a tremendous athlete, sits at 89, can dial it up to 94 whenever he wants to, and has a ridiculous arsenal of offspeed pitches. See for yourself when he's pitching in the new Box next Feb if you don't believe me.
Ever since Moneyball, the 1st 2 rounds have become dominated by college picks. They are staying away from HS pitchers in many cases now. So don't look at where HS pitchers get drafted as an indicator of how they project MLB-wise.
By the way, nobody in baseball likes people who say "velo". The intent is to make it sound like you know the game, but in reality it has the opposite effect.
