re: What exactly is Canada's offense?

Hopefully, he will call the toss dive at least 10 times per game. I've read on here how well conceived of a play it is and it always seemed to surprise our opponents, especially the better defenses we play each year.
No need to be cute and try to trick anyone...just line up and want it more than the guy in front of you

He doesnt even know. Yesterday he said 2 completely opposite things in the same interview. He said who ever fits their system best will play then he said they will fit the system to the players.
He does know, he just doesn't give a frick if you or anyone else does. Coach speak to us, his offensive plans to the team.

I think this reply deserves a little more love. That's some funny shite right there.

It's not a true triple option like Georgia tech. It's a multi formation spread. It gets confused with a triple option due to the amount that he incorporates the jet sweep, although he he doesn't run the sweep traditionally the way LSU does. He uses the sweep from different positions and personnel depending on the formation.

Are sure it's not really the wishbone that he's gonna run? I think the wish bone with a mix of toss dive is what we should expect

A true wishbone has two RB in the backfield with a dive for the fullback then an option to the sideline between the QB and RB. Canada's offense doesn't require the Qb to run. This is why it can have a pro or dt style QB. The option comes from a receiver or end that can get the ball while in motion. Extremely difficult for defenses to get set and defend against.

"Multiple" is a good term. The shifts hearken back to what Hank Stram ran in Kansas City.

If you have time watch this
That really does sum it up for anyone wanting to become familiar with Canada's offense quickly. It would be nice if someone could edit that game tape down to only include Pitt's offensive plays for a faster watch.
My take aways:
1) Canada's offense is complex but not gimmicky. Lots of formation shifts, misdirection, and some uptempo, but still founded on solid run and pass plays and excellent execution. I really like the discipline his players demonstrated.
2) The whole style is very different from what Tiger fans are used to seeing, so that alone should generate lots of excitement and energy next season.
3) Normally with something that looks that complex, you'd think it would take years to install the system. What's encouraging is that Canada was able to do that in his first year at Pitt. So either he's able make it seem more simple than it is, he's excellent at coaching his players up, or, more likely, both.
4) The one problem I see is that Canada's system requires a solid quarterback. Peterman was a senior last year, poised, able to read the defenses, make the throws, and was really good at executing that shovel pass option. Etling has experience, but will he be able to check all the boxes next year? Behind him is talent without experience. I'm sure Canada will adjust his scheme to fit his quarterback, but we still need an above average QB if we're going to compete for a NC, rather than average as so many on this board believe.

Anybody know kind of tempo will he run? Will we still try to eat up time or are we just going to try to score as quickly and often as possible?

Good question. He varies the tempo which is interesting. They huddle and then come to the line and shift all over gods creation and then after that play it goes NASCAR speed and run another play.
**From a coaching standpoint this helps our OL out a ton. People are more apt to play you Vanilla when they don't know what formation you are going to switch to and or you go fast (no subs).
Should be exciting to watch!
