Trindon was in the finals of the 100 mtr run at NCAA. Ran. 10.05 100 meters.
Xavier Carter and Bennie Brazell had elite national/international speed as well. Eddie Kennison was no slouch on the track for a guy who was primarily a football player.
Thus my use of the term "football speed", meaning with pads, cleats, on turf, in traffic, in a game, etc. Trindon was so low, had such quick acceleration and while he did not have elite T&F TOP speed, those other things made him so "football" fast that it doesn't matter (and helped him in the 60 and 100, events in which he excelled). Recall he was so short that over 100m he was taking between 5 and 7 more strides over the same distance as his more typically "heighted" short sprinters who were typically 5 to 7 inches taller than he was.
He was also very stocky and muscular for his height.
Sammy was just a football player who was lightning fast in pads, cleats, on turf, in a game.

Nice guy, used to play baketball with him at married student housing on the short goals. Fun times.

He was quite a player. No better tribute than that from teammates and opponents.

We were just talking about him today. I remember him running all over Ole Miss in Jackson in 1987.
Was at that game. I think Sammy Martin, Harvey Williams and Eddie Fuller EACH had 100+ yards rushing that night.

Not in that game. Williams was 14/165 (L 76). Martin was 12/86 (L 18). Fuller was 10/47 (L 10). Each rushed for a TD. Wendell Davis had a big day, catching all 3 of the TD passes.
For that era, that was almost perfect offense. We missed a FG (Browndyke) and only punted once (DeFrank).
