Nick Saban was never caught on camera asking the state trooper if we had a time out left.

too many if's in your reasoning

Too many "if's"? There was one "if".

1) LSU in 2004 had a better record than this year's team at this point in the season. 9-2 v. 9-3.
2) LSU in 2004 had a better SEC record than this year's team. 6-2 v. 5-3.
3) LSU in 2004 ended the regular season on a 6 game winning streak with wins over Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas. LSU in 2009 is 4-2 in its last 6 games, 2-2 in it's last 4 games and losses to Florida, Alabama and Ole Miss.
4) LSU in 2004 scored 50+ 2 times and 40+ 3 times. LSU in 2009 scored 40+ one time.
5) LSU in 2004 allowed a lower ppg average than the 2009 team at this point in the season.

Yet, that team sucked?

Geniuses around here.

No it didn't. We had one really bad game at UGA where the team didn't show up and Saban was outcoached, and as Drizz points out, we scored 40+ and even 50+ points multiple times that year.

Saban lost games he should of won. Just like miles.

Disagree with your premise. Miles has lost zero games to patsies. Has come close, but no losses.

Looking back at this year, it is almost amazing that this team finished 9-3, especially when you realize that each of those 3 losses could have also been wins, with just a small amount of good fortune.

And we really were NOT a great team, as is obvious from our national stats.

IMHO, our sub-par performance on the field was largely a reflection on the piss-poor effectiveness of some teaching coaches. Miles knows we did not develop our talent very well this year, and he will make key staff changes in the off-season. He will also prolly get a lot more in everybody's faces next spring and afterward.

I have no doubt that Les Miles is just as disgusted with our performance this year, as is the biggest Miles-hating Tiger fan on this board.

But, he salvaged a 9-3 season somehow, which I don't think Saban could have done here. And I think Miles will keep us on an even keel with Bama and Florida as long as he is here.

Realistically if we get to the SECCG every three years, on average, that would be a great record, given the phenomenal caliber of coaches and programs in the SEC West right now.

This year and last were simply not going to be our years, after we lost our experienced QB to disciplinary immaturity. Coach Miles did the absolute right thing, but LSU and we fans had to swallow our medicine and just battle back the best we could. Bama took advantage of our misfortune.

Next year can be our turn to take advantage, and I think it will. If Coach Miles leads us to the SECCG next year, despite our tough medicine in '08 and '09, we'll be right on schedule to contend once again for the BCS title game, and we'll show the world that LSU is still an elite national football powerhouse.

I have great respect for Nick Saban as a football coach, but I feel that Miles > Saban, for LSU, as a great coach and a great ambassador.

I expect Les Miles to be here for many more years and many more championships.

Saban lost games he should have won, but not because he was a complete idiot on the sideline. Maybe he didn't have the team prepared. Maybe we had suspect play-calling. Maybe we blew a coverage. We never let 20 precious seconds run off the clock when we were driving for a potential winning FG, then call our last time out with 9 seconds left and lose a damned game by 2 points when we're sitting on the opponent's 5 fricking yard line.

Cause Saban wasn't stupid and his sentence syntax was a hell of lot better.

And if you have to ask the question then you don't know much about football.

We were also, 6-2 and would have been playing in the SECCG if it weren't for the phantom re-kick at Auburn.

that re-kick would have only assured us of overtime, not necessarily a win. keep in mind we missed an extra point which really costs us the game JUST AS MUCH as the penalty that allowed the re-kick. if we lose a game cause of a missed PAT this year, fans would shite their pants.

Are you serious? We lost a game a few weeks ago because our idiot coaches weren't even prepared for the eventuality of a kick.

Regardless, Auburn was 14-0 that season. LSU was 9-2 and 6-2 SEC, far from a crap season as the poster was foolishly attempting to say.

The 2004 Team lost to #14 Auburn, #3 Georgia, and #12 Iowa, 3 teams that finished in the Top 10 that season.

The 2004 Team had the #38 Offense and the #3 Defense.

Hard to say. The SEC landscape was different then. The Gumps were a doormat and Gators hadn't been Urbanized yet.
I know it sounds nuts, but try inserting '04 Tigers into the '09 SEC and objectively see if the end result is different. I'm not saying this team doesn't have a long way to go, but it still competes in spite of it's flaws.

I think the 2004 team put into this season would be 10-2, 6-2 at worst and with much better overall performances.

Compare Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Arkansas' 2004 teams to their 2009. Every one of them had a better team in 2009 than they did in 2004.

Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Arkansas all sucked in 2004. That's why LSU was able to finish winning 6 games in a row that season. Did we forget LSU almost lost to Troy in 2004? LSU played a much tougher schedule down the stretch in 2009 compared to 2004.

Georgia and Auburn were also much better in 2004. If the 2009 team played the 2004 schedule, what would their record have been? 8-3, 7-4?

This team almost lost to both Georgia and MSU and needed a missed FG in OT to beat Arkansas. But I get your almost lost to Troy.

2004 also struggled with a bad Alabama team at home and a God awful Ole Miss team, also at home. Don't forget they needed three missed extra points to beat Oregon State.

Florida, Mississippi State, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Arkansas were all much better teams in 2009 than they were in 2004, while only Auburn and Georgia were better in 2004. What's your point?

LSU beat Bama by over two TDs. Oregon State was a crappy game for sure, but I guess it's okay for the 2009 to struggle in every win, but the 2004 sucks as stated above because they struggled in a few.

With this team's lack of preparation and playing almost every game to it's opponents level, 4-4 SEC record in 2004 seems about right.

And to answer your question, if the 2009 team played the 2004 schedule they go 9-2.

I can't say what the bowl game would be since Miles being the coach is a different variable, but since he's 4-0 in bowls and blows everyone out, I'd have to say 2009 would have beaten Iowa. So I have to say this team goes 10-2 with 2004's schedule.

But we were down 13-10 mid way through the 3rd and it took a pass interference no call on Webster's interception in the endzone to not go down 10.
