I've got to tell you, when LSU hired Crowton I came on an LSU board (don't remember which one) and asked WHY they hired a guy we were trying to get rid of? I mean it was likely he'd have been fired within a year at Oregon

He was still riding his time at La Tech, especially here in Louisiana. After seeing how improved Dixon was once Crowton was gone, and seeing some questionable calls, I started to have concern. It's a testament to the talent on the team that we went 11-2 last year in the SEC with the 11th ranked offense in the conference.

Yea, I understand way too well. I have a friend that's a Maryland grad. He played bball for them. He's been asking me about Crowton. I haven't been able to tell him anything that makes him happy with the hire.

I'll come out if left field with this one... 2007 NC year I forget who we are playing but it's 4th and 1 and he calls a quick screen pass behind the line of scrimmage near the sideline to Keiland who had to turn himself around to catch it and fight his way for the yard and a half to get the first... Even tho it worked I was like WTF was that?!

I immediately thought of this play at the begining of this thread. I think it was against Arkansas. I think Flynn was rolling right and then does a 360 and throws it a yard behind the yard of scrimmage. Keiland fights his way for a 1st down although I don't know how he did it.

Crowton calls for a massive substitution

I loathed how GC called games, but that mass confusion is what saved our arse. Thats the only reason UT had 13 on the field.

2009 Penn St...I happened to be in Cap One booth that day...exiting to the hallway, totally pissed, when the door opened on the booth next door. Crowton/other coaches exited. "GD, Crowton , why don't you run up the middle again with 40 secs and no time, you @#$@#.." someone shouted. OOps, my wife calmed me, deputies nearby thumbed Glock strap. I waited 3 more elevator loads before I went down. That one was hard to take. PSU fans were in ecstacy

He had many-- or if you believe his most recent article, he made no calls. But if I see an option to the short side of the field, run by a quarterback who has no concept of spacing between him and the runningback, I may go postal!

No. That play worked once. Lee was 13-34 vs. Bama that day. At least throw a short pass.

This is the kind of stuff you see written and find out people have never played a down before. I'm sure that was the only receiver in the pattern. Lee made a bad read. It's not like Gary said, "ok, here's the play but throw it to the corner route."
I don't know what the hell you are talking about. I know that specific pass play was run 3 times that day. The first time it was executed beautifully, the other two times, well duh. If you really think that Lee was doing a whole lot of looking around the field in 08 you weren't paying attention. That was the primary receiver, and that's who he threw it to. Dumb assed call.

And I've played football plenty.

Honorable Mention -

First offensive play, Georgia 08, 1st and 10 from the LSU 37 -

Pass is called over the middle, (play action I think) with a rattled RS Freshman QB and is intercepted.

Why call that play out of the box? Just seems like a handoff to settle everyone down would've been prudent.

Play by Play

this +10000

And it wasn't play action as was mentioned above. It was 5 wide receivers with NO running back... a perfect setup for a freshman QB who was burned by some interceptions in the last few games. Especially on the first play of the game. [link=(The video)]https://www.blinkx.com/watch-video/no-7-georgia-scampers-past-no-13-lsu-on-back-of-moreno/krQ8odWKwb7YHMZgexxUUQ[/link]. I remember watching this game and complaining about the formation before the snap.
