Even if you took his exact win/loss record he wouldn't have made it to the 90's.

joepa would have been forced to retire at 74 by state law, the same thing that happened to eddie robinson...
Robinson coached until he was 78.

As others have posted.. Coaching in State College had him insulated from the rest of the country. Coaching in a small town like State College is very different then coaching in Baton Rouge. I doubt he would have lasted in Baton Rouge for as long as he lasted at PSU.

What makes you think Joe Pa wouldn't have cut it out as a coach at LSU?
The question was "would JoePA last 46 years at LSU". Bear Bryant, Robert Neyland, Shug Jordan, Vince Dooley.....these legendary coaches didn't last 30 years at their respective SEC schools. Why would I think JoePa would be any different in a high pressure job like LSU?

Weak argument. As an independent, they beat #1 UGA and #2 Miami in their two national championship years
Really? And an argument could be made that if they played in a competitive conference instead of running up the score against a schedule that as an independent, that they controlled....they never would have had the opportunity to play in either of those NC games.

So, Cholly Mac couldn't recruit nationally? Maybe we shouldn't have let him coach LSU for 18 years!
No program "recruited nationally" back then. It was a different game. You recruited regionally. You didn't have the crazy TV and apparel revenue that you have today. Get a fricking clue.
