the low # of sacks tells you that he likes to drop alot of men in coverage on 3rd down which has been our problem the last 2 years

On the site I was using it only had the last 3 years for those categories...

Les has been given an open checkbook there's no excuse for not making a big time hire

I'm pretty sure Chavis's D has ranked in the top 3 in the SEC 70% of the time.
Him and Coach O would be a killer combo.

I can't say Ellis is bigger than Chavis sorry.

Ellis Johnson+Ed O on the DL would be fricking incredible
I don't know a lot about Ellis.
He's at South Carolina, right?
23rd in Sacks
11th in total D
54th in picks
36th in FFs
What's his scheme?

I hope this happens. Seems like best case scenario.

Why does the last 3 year always get posted? The man has coached for 30 years........TENNESSEE has been on the decline the last 3 years.
and there have been more spread offenses the last 3-5 years which is what we need a DC to be able to defend.

uhhh how can you not? His bio is just as impressive as Chavis's, he's been around the SEC for while and his Ds have always been successful. Plus he runs the type of D we were supposed to be running this year

Rantards can't wait for Chavis to get with the LSU talent since UT had no talent at all but compare Chavis' stats to Ellis Johnson in the next breath because they clearly have the same exact talent.

i actually have his stats in total and scoring D for every year he was at Tenn and while he had some good D's, he never had a great one. the bottom line is that if you weren't content with pelini you're not going to be content with chavis because he's a clear downgrade. LSU could do better if they wanted to take a little risk and actually conduct a search before hiring someone
Tulane, that post makes the most sense out of any. Reminds me of other coaching hires when LSU ran out and grabbed the first coach that showed any interest regardless of having real good resume. If they would just slow down and interview good candidates I am sure we could land a top notch coach. Instead of settling for mediocre which seems to be the norm as of late.

Is there one person that thinks positive left around here...
I do, hell lots of people do. On the Rant board anyone who trys to be positive is shouted down. There is perhaps the largest collection of douchebags on this board than any other College sportsboard in the South.
Most of the former LSU Football players will not post here because of them.

its not like tenn has never had any talent on d eith
They had great talent until the academic scandal a few years ago. Those guys left early, Richt, Saban, and others came into the SEC and started keeping their best players at home. Tennessee had to reach and take academic and character risk recruits. They have struggled since then to keep the talent depth do dominate as they once did.

If we get Chavis as DC and Orgeron as DL/Recruiting coordinator, we will be in the national championship game at least once in the next 3 years ... Mark it down. Great defensive coaching combination if true. Chavis is a great play-caller/coordinator, Coach O is a great Dline coach and "in your face" guy on the sideline not to mention a helluva recruiter...
The ship would be "righted" defensively almost immediately.

I may have missed something, but I just don't see Coach O coming here. I think he is Rocky Top bound given his relationship with Lane Kiffin.

And what, pray tell, is the extent of this fantastic relationship with Lane? Maybe a year or two of common employment at USC? Color me underwhelmed when compared to his "relationships"
