Coaches that would be fired by the rant in their prime:
- Bear Bryant
- Joe Paterno
- Lou Holth
- Bobby Bowden
Chill the eff out ladies.

He is on the hot seat. LSu has too much money at stake through construction projects to sit through another year of destruction by Malleveto

Miles is not on the hot seat for 2009. 2010? ... possibly if things don't get better next season. Nonetheless, he is definitely not on the hot seat for 2009, nor should he be.
If Miles doesn't address the defensive issues on this team immediately he will lose this team and he'll officially be on the hot seat.

They went 0-12 this year. They have not talent. Sarkasian is not that good. We can go up there without a DC and win.

There's certainly a pattern here. The argument that Miles is a bad coach is silly and pointless. It is a historical fact that Miles is a good coach ... he's had one losing season his entire head coaching career (his first year at Oklahoma state). Is he the greatest coach in college football? No, definitely not ... but to imply that Miles is a bad coach is just silly.
You know what, I do think Miles is a good coach.
But what you did last year (with a team loaded with seniors at key positions and a ton of breaks) doesn't buy you the right to F-up next year.
If MIles pulls a Woody Hayes and punches someone in the face; he's gone.
And if he doesn't address the DC issue before 2009 he should be gone before the season starts.
LSU is a football school and you shouldn't get more than one mulligan.

He is not on the hot seat. We are not that bad. 3 of the losses this year were expected (Alabama, Georgia and Florida) because of our QB situation. The other 2 could have or should have gone the other way. We had a down year, next year we willbe back. No matter what I support the team and Coach Miles.

Wow, I'm glad you're not the AD. You would have fired Bear Bryant in 1970 !!$#!??!....
A national championship coach that goes...
1968: 8-3 with a loss in the Gator Bowl.
1969: 6-5 with a loss in the Liberty Bowl
1970: 6-5-1 with a tie in the Bluebonnet Bowl.
1971: DONHOGG as AD: Bye Bye Coach Bryant.
Yes, but there's a little thing called context.
If you go 7-5 and don't make changes that are glaringly obvious, then you need to go.
Miles has some strengths as a coach, but, call me crazy, I don't quite see the Bryant comparison yet.
Someone else could make a comparison to Larry Coker?

I know he is not on the hot seat. But someone said we could count UW as a loss if we do not get a new DC. I was responding to that. People that think we should get rid of an NC winning HC need to step away from the egg nog and enjoy the success that LSU football has had the last several years.

Just knew an idiotic question like this would be asked.

No, we weren't expected to lose to Alabama before the season. No.
And the fact that Alabama improved throughout the year proves the axiom that if you're not moving forward, you're moving backward. Especially in this league.
So, all in all, we were only 3 games off the pace this season. People we won 7 games, four of which were OOC jokes. We won 3 conference games -- 2 against teams that lost their coaches at seasons end because they really sucked.

We couldn't beat R-Kansas and almost lost to Troy without a DC, what makes you think we could travel across country and beat Washington?

No. Winning the NC in 2007 will, however. I don't see him getting canned for years.
The Miles standard from here on out (some may refer to this as the Dinardo standard) is to beat all of your rent-a-win teams, win no games of national (except as that of the "spoiler"), or conference significance, and play a bowl before 1/1 of every year.
We are the model of mediocrity in college football.

Miles job is NOT in jeopardy! The man just won a NC!

There are quite a few Auburn, Clemson, Oregon, Florida State, South Carolina, Iowa, and Pittsburgh fans that would disagree with you, to name a few.

No, no Tri, there is no such thing as context on the Rant. Miles won the NC in 2007 and that makes him the best coach in the SEC. You cannot add other factors into your analysis on the rant, lest you be flamed.

Winning the 2007 national championship does not make him the best coach in the SEC. It makes him the most successful coach in the SEC, but not necessarily the best.
I think he takes too many chances to be a good coach. In 2007, because of a unique set of situations, we backed into the game. We lost a huge game to Arky at the end of the season, a game we happened to lose again this year.
Honestly this year we beat NO ONE of any significance. And we almost lost to auburn, SC, and troy.
We didn't play up to our talent which is a big problem. Sometimes that happens with a very young team, but it should raise some flags.
Overall, a coach who has been successful gets a bye once in a while. Having a bunch of seniors graduate and losing you qb was a bad blow to this team, but the team still underperformed.
This is his bye. He won't get canned next year unless he totally flubs, which he can't do because of the amount of talent he has. But if he doesn't show he is worth his salary by 2010, he might be in trouble.

Miles will be there through 2010, unless RR leaves UM.

A coach can't be expected to turn a turd into a diamond in one season, but to take the brightest diamond in the league and turn it into a turd one agonizing game at a time is pretty enlightening...thus the hot seat.
