I last time I looked, this particular blog page topic was "Haynesville Shale". There are a lot of absentee landowners who are searching for any bit of information they can to try and help themselves and others. The least thing you can do if you do not wish to help is be gracious about it instead of insulting us. If you do not wish to have to read our "boring" posts, then go to another page and reply to other topics. You are very insulting with your holier than thy attitude.
AND, not all of us have just 1 acre.
Well said. We have quite a bit more than 1 acre and info is hard to come by. I made a couple of general inquiries about (non-north) DeSoto Parish and was pretty much ignored. Boring beats a****** most days.

Go over to gohaynesvilleshale.com. Everyone over there would gladly try and help you.

information is hard to come by?!
yea right, it is the only thing that people talk about on here, on the news, everywhere. There are full page advertisements in the local paper everyday. you can even contact the companies about them leasing your property. to say that information is hard to come by is insane.
amazing how people come to TD.com instead of
seeking the help of an attorney or landman. no wonder you are having trouble finding information, look where you are looking for it. yea, it is the haynesville shale thread, but most of us are talking about the revenues, stocks, expansion of the predicted shale area, etc. I'm just hoping you aren't taking the info on here too seriously, because 99.9% of the stuff on here is rumors. there are some very qualified people on here and they have repeatedly recommended going to gohaynesvilleshale.com to get information. and if you have much more than one acre, and you haven't been contacted by anybody, your future in the shale probably isn't too promising. i didn't think i was sitting on a high horse when saying that, WAKE UP! you are on tigerdroppings.com looking for information about leasing your property!!!! that should tell you something, yea its fun to sit here and read rumors and people getting excited, and i think its even okay to ask for a contact from several pros that frequent this site, but to sit here repeatedly and ask information about YOUR property on an LSU fan page website is a little irresponsible to me.
gohaynesvilleshale.com is great but you have to only read what certain people say, the rest are pretty much rumors.
Also, ask your neighbor, that is the best place to probably start.

The property has already been leased, as I said in earlier posts. If it was promising and unleased, I'm sure one of the landmen on here would have already been getting my email address.
And first, God bless all the good hardworking landmen out there--they are needed to make all this happen--but some of the ones talking to my mother made statements that ranged from the ridiculous to outright bull****.
There are obviously some experienced oil types on here and I was looking for their gut feeling about a particular area (not just our plot of land). Just curious like many others.
Missed that congeniality class in Pet.E. huh?

haha, there is no congeniality in petroleum engineering i assure you, by your third year after all the middle eastern teachers and classes where an A is a 70% your so frustrated and tired of shite, the last thing on your mind is congeniality.
anyway, I'm concerned, and i think my concern is justified, that some people are taking the talk on the Money Talk waaaaayyyy tooo seriously.
You need to get your mom in contact with an attorney there are a lot of good ones, you need to ask around. i wouldn't recommend it on here since you will see that there are a few ranters who come and subtly advertise their business.
on gohaynesvilleshale.com there is a link for oil & gas attorneys.
there are many respected ones in shreveport with plenty of integrity.

This is a fun thread and I think its encouraging seeing the 1 & 2 post count folks join. I hope they continue to pose questions that might be helpful to others.
I don't think anyone seriously looking into a lease wouldn't get a landman or atty involved. But its nice to come on here & test the waters & get the opinion of folks that are in the business.
Here's to this thread going 100+ pages. I learn something every single new page that appears.

And now back on topic..has anyone negotiated copies of the well logs from HK or CHK into their lease agreements? That would be a great piece of information to have.

BTW,with my number of posts, I am still a guest here and may toss a little humor, but mean no disrespect to anyone here. The thread is mostly a good read and is appreciated.

this isn't Tiger Rant or the OT, nobody is going to judge you by the number of posts you have. As long as you stay in Money and Political, you should be safe from the rantards.

95% of landowners would not be able to interpret them. I imagine very few people would end up having access to these, most being the timber companies and large landowners. It's going to be very hard to get a mud log out of CHK or HK.

I have a friend who is a geologist for a large oil & gas company and he was very interested in seeing if I could get him a copy.

A copy of the already drilled wells? This is something that no one realizes. CHK is done drilling vertical wells it appears (although they might have to drill more where geology is unknown), so for a while at least all logging will be done with MWD/LWD tools and it will not be possible to get the vertical thicknesses and other information. Anybody who has copies right now would be best inclined to hold onto them.

Actually, that is one of the pieces of information that the company has to give you if are force pooled (don't sign a lease). I don't mean to open that controversy again, but if that information is valuable (to keep away from competitors), the O&G company may have more incentive to give you a lease.
See Paragraph 2(dd) here: LA RS 30:10

This section I believe is referring to leases held by separate companies (parties). Note the following:
(e) The provisions of Paragraph 2(b) above with respect to the risk charge shall not apply to any unleased interest not subject to an oil, gas, and mineral lease. Notwithstanding the provisions of Paragraph 2(b) the royalty owner and overriding royalty owner shall receive that portion of production due to them under the terms of the contract creating the royalty.
Hence these statutes appear to not apply to any unleased interest owner. Sharing of data must be done with lease holders (other companies) who elect to pay their share of costs.

Tiger dog. not to change the subject but I have been following the posts and sorry to all as this is my first post which may according to this board disqualify me from having an opinion but here it goes anyway. You and pittboss made reference to the lack of interest and or productive areas north of benton or around plain dealing area based on the sampson well and numerous old wells over the past 30 or so years. Having numerous friends who drilled many of those wells and are currently in business today they tell me that this isnt a for sure dead zone until some holes are drilled because most of those old wells where drilled for oil and with old techniqes. Some have pointed out to a vertical well in south caddo by chesapeak that had a result similar to old wells in P.D area that when they came back and horizontaled it, it had a totaly different set of results. They have also told me that seizmic is not 100%conclusive and that the fact that It may not have shale vs sandstone isnt a forsure. Elaborate a little more from your perspective please. thanx in advance

I was in the Natchitoches Parish courthouse. Clerk's office was VERY busy today with landmen. One enployee said they are very secretive. If you go near their papers, they turn them over. All recently filed leases are in north Natch. Parish but they don't have to file leases immediately. Doesn't appear to be over here.

Sorry, Acadiana, but your land with the crawfish ponds are not in the play. The Haynesville is a sand up there. We could give you pages of wells drilled through the Haynesville that show no shale.
