for everyone in this thread....say i was going to be building a house in the $250k-$350k range. What kind of down payment should i be looking at? $60k?

You should strive for 20% for any mortgage to avoid PMI in my opinion.

Anywhere from 50k to 70k if you haven't owned the lot for a year with most bank. Dow Credit Union can offer up to 95% on an exception basis but can do 90% normally.
That is a big arse gap in price range. Most people have a much better idea of what they are looking at
