Agreed. If you can make it through the first 3-4 of hell, then the rest is just like a normal class as far as time commitment goes.

Only a month or so into the program, this buzzword from practitioners is starting to get ridiculous.
i'm not in the same industry as you all in this thread, but this word annoys me too. i was getting admitted to practice in federal court last week and the attorney introducing one of the other new admits said he was "a rising rock star" in their firm. made me cringe.

Rockstar is one of the least annoying of overused corporate terms IMO.

We don't have rockstars, we just pay people higher bonuses. :makeitrain:

I had never even heard it used in the corporate context until recruitment was almost over.
For me, I think the word is "channels".

People here constantly use "language." "Update the language in the report so it says xxx."

This could make for an awesome thread by itself...

I work for the Big 4. What is this "bonus" word you speak of good sir?
Posted on 2/6/12 at 9:49 am to MStant1
The main reason I didn't pursue the other jobs, although I was told BV guys got small/fixed bonuses.

If you are a "rockstar", then 10-13% bonus at year end is what you can expect when times are good.

Lies.
While it is true that performance bonuses exist, they aren't common. If you do something AMAZING you get a $1000 bonus. If you do something good, but not amazing that is "above and beyond" you get a $50 - $200 gift card of your choosing.
Thats the way it is at EY at least. I would suspect that the other 3 do something similar.
There are promotional bonuses though. Staff being promoted to senior get $5K and Seniors being promoted to managers get either $8K or $10K I believe. Either way neither bonus compares to bonuses in industry. Not sure about bonuses after manager.

That's about 40% less than what a "rock star" bonus would garner here.
eta: I am not a rockstar, which is why I'm on here right now. Still worn out from the weekend, but I'll be here 12 hours from now too.

I'm in the Internal Audit class right now too. I'm nervous to hear back about interviews. Fingers crossed!

I've heard from people that took the IA classes and been through the program.
Seems like they run that program like a cult and someone as strong willed and back boned as me could never be a part of that.
I am an accounting major, and already have a big four internship through fall recruiting (which is a little more competitive) because they are not required to meet a quota like the companies that participate in the IA program.

People do the IA program mostly because it makes them more competitive against other schools that otherwise LSU candidates would not be competitive against.
For example when I started the firm my starting class had several from Cornell, UPenn, NYU, Indiana and Michigan. All schools much higher ranked than LSU. Without the IA program I probably wouldn't have had a shot...especially with what my GPA was.

Yeah I can definitely see that. I've just heard how the class is run, and the ground rules laid out. And I really just disagree with the way the program is run. However, it does get students exposed with tons of firms and corporations which is very good.

The boot-camp mentality is really only for the first 3-4 weeks. After that it is basically run like a normal class. They are essentially trying to weed out those who aren't serious in order to keep a higher quality class. It works in theory. The drop rate in the first month is crazy high.
The program works for the most part. The job placement is excellent. It's hard to argue with their results.

Should have just come to Ole Miss then!

The way the CIA program herds students through recruitment like cattle is total BS, IMO.

Up to #10 in the country for the Masters in Accounting/Tax programs.
