Now THIS is very interesting! Is Ford going to be MVIS' strategic investor for LiDAR?! The signs are there.

No, they spent a billion dollars with Argo Al to use their Lidar platform. They will first use it in their commercial vehicles.

Sleek.

Edit: It looks like Argo is more focused on the software side of things. They were using Velodyne puck sensors on the testing vehicles.

MicroVision Announces $50 Million At-the-Market Equity Facility

quote:

REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 16, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVIS), a leader in MEMS based solid state automotive lidar and micro-display technology for augmented reality, today announced it entered into a $50 million At-the-Market (ATM) equity offering agreement with Craig-Hallum Capital Group LLC (Craig-Hallum).

Under the agreement MicroVision may, from time to time, at its discretion offer and sell shares of its common stock having an aggregate value of up to $50 million through Craig-Hallum. MicroVision intends to use the net proceeds from the ATM, if any, for general corporate purposes, which may include, but are not limited to, working capital and capital expenditures as MicroVision pursues a potential strategic transaction.

“We continue to make progress on completing our development goal of producing the best-in-class lidar sensor for range, resolution with velocity field output and remain on track to meet our previously announced April 2021 milestone. We believe this financing will give us an opportunity to firmly solidify our balance sheet as we remain committed to pursuing strategic alternatives and building value for our shareholders,” said Sumit Sharma, MicroVision Chief Executive Officer. “We plan to complete development of our 1st generation Long Range Lidar module to a level that would be ready to scale in the market as well as take other actions to increase the value of the Company.”

Under the ATM equity offering sales agreement, sales of common stock, if any, through Craig-Hallum, will be made by means of ordinary brokers’ transactions, in negotiated transactions, to or through a market maker other than on an exchange or otherwise, at market prices prevailing at the time of sale, at prices related to such prevailing market prices, or at negotiated prices and/or any other method permitted by law.

The common stock will be offered under MicroVision’s effective shelf registration statement filed today with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which includes a prospectus relating to the offering. Any offer, solicitation or sale will be made only by means of the prospectus. Current and potential investors should read the prospectus and other documents the company has filed with the SEC for more complete information about MicroVision and the ATM.

A copy of the prospectus relating to these securities may be obtained by contacting Craig-Hallum at 222 South Ninth Street, Suite 350, Attention: Equity Capital Markets, by telephone at (612) 334-6300 or by email at prospectus@chlm.com.

This feels like a minor speed bump right now and I will buy the dip if it goes below $18. I'm just trying to figure out if "a level that would be ready to scale in the market" means 2021 or 2022. I assume this year but I'm going to ask IR for clarification.

More cash give you more leverage at the negotiating table.

Log scale monthly chart

You would expect to see a pullback soon. Then again, WallStreetBets has never been on MVIS this hard before.

Also, Jim Cramer offered the company to come on his show tomorrow. The hype is only getting bigger!

microvision-announces-completion-its-long-range-lidar-sensor

quote:

REDMOND, Wash., April 28, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVIS), a leader in MEMS based laser beam sensing technology, today announced that it has completed development of its A-Sample hardware and development platform for demonstration of key performance features of its long-range lidar sensor to potential customers, partners, or parties interested in strategic alternatives.

“In October 2020 we set an aggressive schedule to complete development of our A-Sample in the April timeframe. I am proud of our talented team, their dedication and their ability to execute,” said Sumit Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of MicroVision. “I believe our differentiated, high-performance lidar sensor has the potential to advance autonomous driving and active safety systems beyond current sensors announced in the automotive market. I expect that a version of this lidar sensor could be available for sale, in initial quantities, in the third or fourth quarter of 2021,” continued Sharma.

“With an expected range of 250 meters and a field of view of 100 degrees horizontal by 30 degrees vertical, we expect this lidar sensor to provide the highest resolution point cloud at 10.8 million points per second while operating at 30 hertz. Additionally, this lidar sensor is designed to be immune to interference from sunlight and other lidars. One of the ground breaking proprietary features of this lidar sensor is its capability to output the axial, lateral and vertical velocity of moving objects at 30 hertz,” added Sharma. “We believe no lidar product on the market, ranging from frequency modulated continuous wave to time-of-flight, has this capability. To achieve safety and successful autonomous driving, we believe this capability delivered at low latency will be a key feature.”

It's bigger than I expected. INVZ has nearly identical specs on the Innoviz one and the Innoviz two is already in development.

I just don't get why everyone thinks MVIS is so great when there are other companies in the sector just as good if not better.

No one really thinks this stock makes sense, they’re just trying to pump it so they can bail.

Nearly. And sure, specs are important but how you arrive at those specs is even more important. There are design and cost factors involved here for these auto OEMs.

Plus MVIS technology and patents enable not only automotive LiDAR, but also other verticals like interactive projection displays and displays for augmented reality headsets. This gives them a much larger overall total addressable market. Auto LiDAR has a $40b - $80b TAM in the next 5-10 years. But according to ARK invest, by 2030 the AR market could scale from under a $1b today to $130b. Big players like MSFT APPL FB and GOOG have all been putting the pieces in place for this AR push to the consumer markets. And MVIS recently brought on a new BoD member last year who was a key player at Google that was responsible for Google Glass.

Microvision has been working with Microsoft for years on perfecting this technology for the Hololens 2 and more recently the US Army's IVAS. The key is that these MVIS patents apply across both AR and LiDAR verticals. World class AR technology is now becoming world class LiDAR technology. That's a very big deal! MVIS' biggest advantage over the competition lies in their patents. Their patents allow for a more efficient LiDAR sensor design. There is less complexity and cost involved with the MVIS sensor vs LAZR, VLDR, INVZ, etc.

All that said, MVIS still has no LiDAR partnerships and most other LiDAR companies do, including INVZ. This is the main thing holding MVIS back right now on the LiDAR front. The A-Sample sensor is now complete though and auto OEMs will begin testing the MVIS sensor on their vehicles. The next step would be potential partnership or buyout. Also note that MVIS is the only LiDAR company that is officially up for sale right now.

So say you have a big company like Apple, Microsoft or Google that is looking at jumping into both AR technology and EV/LiDAR technology, well then MVIS' tech and patents suddenly become a pretty attractive offer given the TAM for both of these verticals over the next 5-10 years. THAT is why everyone thinks MVIS is so great.

This post earnings call selloff is a bit of an overreaction, but will allow new investors and those already holding shares to buy/add at a discount. I personally think current (pre-partnership) fair value sits between $17-$25/share.

Sumit confirmed there will be two versions of the LiDAR sensor. The 1st gen being their newly completed A-Sample product which will start selling in Q3 or Q4. The second version is higher priced and will offer more innovation, including software integration. Mass production targeted for 2024 auto OEM product launches.

Partnership(s) are the next step here. I would guess we see the first partnership announcement within the next 3-6 months, depending on their timeline for initial sales.

As always with MVIS, I'll be buying the dips.
