River Oaks in Houston is an old money area (as much as Texas can be considered old money). My Uncle was VP of Capital Steel in Houston and we used to go to his boss's house in River Oaks. Amazing and on another level. The thing about people with truly a lot of money is that they don't need to prove it by having a flashy new car in the driveway. Most people I know with very healthy bank accounts don't spend for the flash, most even consider it ostentatious. The last generation of fifty-thousand dollar millionaires has turned this genteel practice on it's head. All debt and living on the precipice, just so they can feel better about themselves instead of good old fashioned confidence and breeding. It's easier to proffer a credit card than work on your own self-worth. But back to the topic. Most of the people who live in River Oaks aren't really concerned about appearances to the rest of the world, only a small group of peers.

Debakey lived in West University....a bunch of the doctors that work in the medical center live in that area since it is so close by. A bunch live in Bellaire or River Oaks too. It is ridiculous the amount of money in River Oaks though.
