4 Squares is a tactic often used by car salesmen..
1. Price
2. Interest Rate
3. Trade In Value
4. Monthly Note
They just manipulate one or the other to make the sale.
You should always negotiate on the price of the vehicle 1st then worry bout the rest.

4 square is tool used by a lot of dealers to get the most money they can per car. it is price you want to pay, trade, monthly note, down payment. if they can get you into one of these they play them off one another. dont let them get all four pieces of info. Gerry Lane uses the computer system I use to sell and I know they have the software to use this method and make it look pretty. Stick to what you want to pay and keep doing research on the internet. They have to sell cars right now

Google the article "Confessions of a Car Salesman". It talks about the four square. It's an interesting article about how the car sales process works.

yes I know to negotiate the price first and then go from there.
This is what I've been told to do:
Don't tell them you even have a trade
Let them think you are gonna finance through them
Never tell them you have your own financing unless of course you are paying cash I suppose

Without even looking at the blue book value... i would say this truck is a good bit over priced.
For example,
I paid $21,500 for my one owner 2004 z71 tahoe in 2006. The z's then were loaded like the LTZ.. maybe minus navigation. It had 41,000 miles in great condition. This was from a private seller (newspaper ad). Original owner paid 48k for it new.

Personally i would look for another truck... i doubt they are going to come off the price by $8000. But hey i guess you can try.

They stood firm on their price of 24800.
So much for a buyers market....guess they were in it for too much money.
I stood firm on 22800 + TTL

for $25K, i bet it will sit there for another yr.
Do you know how long they've had that vehicle? In a couple of months, they will budge to your asking price so they can increase cash flow.

I didn't have any problems at all. About a week after we got it, we kept hearing a little hum sound and it was coming from this little speaker thing above the driver's side head. Took it in and in about 45 min it was fixed and didn't have any other problems.

Don't worry. If they don't get another buyer, they'll call you before the weekend. We got our Yukon for 7K off their asking price of almost 30K. They wouldn't budge at first, but the saleslady called my wife the next day and said we had a deal. Like a lot of folks have said, just negotiate price and nothing else. If they keep pressing you to know what you want to pay a month, just give them a ridiculously low payment and say you'd rather negotiate price first. If this doesn't work, just walk.

Not neccessarily true. Most dealers have a 90 day rule not to keep used vehicles on their lot. They will wholesale it or do a dealertrade so as their floorplan won't keep accruing interest. I am surprised they wouldn't come off more than that and try making it up on the back end. Especially since used cars is a better cash cow than new cars. Maybe demand is up too. I would still wait till the end of the month.
