The next challengers are the young kids like Fonseca
I agree with you on Fonseca. He is a rising star.

What did I like most about Sinner’s win at the conclusion of the match ? He didn’t flop on the ground , spread eagled , crying and in general pissing me off . Dang , I hate that crap .

I don't like that Sinner dodged the doping stuff pretty much unscathed, but he handles himself the right way. He had his heart ripped out at Roland Garros and could have gone away today, but has some grit and fight I wasn't sure was there.
Like Pride said, it will be wild if what prevents him from the calendar slam is not converting on the three match points at RG (as well as failing to serve it out in the fourth set).

Fritz and Shelton have the best odds to pick one off but they will never challenge consistently
Agreed on Shelton, but I'm not sure Fritz ever gets one.

Shelton just cannot win grinding long rallies. His backhand seems weak.
Fritz is really solid and pretty good on quick courts. I just don't know if he can beat Sinner, Alcaraz, and one other very good player over two weeks.
I still think Zverev can win a major. He has the skills. I don't love the guy, but if he can hang in there mentally, he can do it.
I'm not a Novak guy, but I would love to see him win one more major.

I hope he can, I like Zverev.

If sinner would have lost that match to dimitrov I think Novak would have had #25. If Novak comes back next year I think he’s only shot is AO or Wimbledon.

I was looking at a list of Grand Slam winners over the years, and there were several years in which a different person won each tournament. From 2000-2003, a four-year stretch, each year had four different winners. It's been since 2014 since that happened, unless you count 2020, in which Wimbledon was cancelled and Djokovic was tossed from the U.S. Open. While the domination of a few players is impressive, it would really be fun to watch without the finals being almost a foregone conclusion.

Bunk, I was looking for your non-GS thread and couldn’t find it, but wanted to point out that 45 year old Venus Williams got a win tonight.

Nice.
Chicken said he doesn't want a non-gs thread. He prefers specific tournament threads. Well, I am not starting a thread for non-gs tourneys. All the big guns pulled out of Toronto. Hopefully, they will show up for Cincy. See you all for the U.S. Open thread.
